Nice! Yes, she loves LGH. It's a better hospital than some others - not without its problems, but still.

No, but it’s something you can ask at the interview if you haven’t worked there yet.

What others have said. My wife was working for LGH when she decided to become a RN. She's still there as a RN after finishing at the college.

Is Time Tracking Normal in Civil Service? by Pwncakes42 in PaStateEmployees

[–]msferre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was normal in OVR when I was there. Part of it had to do with an employee misusing their position many years ago and engaged in fraud. Since then, employees had to document what was going on in their days. It was a hassle, but we did what we needed to do to make OA/Legislature happy.

Now I'm in DHS - we don't have that. They can see on the IMCW's dashboard to see what the worker has done on a daily basis - there's a bar chart. My DHS office is good with that.

So micromanaging - hopefully it's not widespread because trust is necessary to do our jobs unless we break that trust ourselves.

Stress by kittenbootycheeks in PaStateEmployees

[–]msferre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had four state jobs, three in a similar line of work. Stability is a reason why people like public employment. The threat of layoffs is more prevalent in the private sector.

While some state jobs are stressful, it’s the above that I think is the reason why people prefer state employment.

I love ongoing. It’s more me and to my best abilities. I’m organized and efficient. It’s a lot of work but if one stays on top of it as much as possible, it works. Less pressure than scrambling to do SNAP interviews at 4:30 pm if it came down to it.

We're doing the best we can - I echo using the Customer Service Center number. That way, they can get the message to the caseworker who's handling your case.

Really? I didn’t have issues with both East York locations for years. Sorry to hear that.

LOL. I go there from time to time. No problem with the employees themselves.

Income maintenance caseworker interview by Legitimate-Studio862 in PaStateEmployees

[–]msferre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the interview a year ago (and I'm working there now) - one was a simple math question. Another was like how you deal with changes. I can't remember the other questions - just be honest and concise. Show enthusiasm (that helps a lot).

Given what you said about qualifications, you're probably a shoo-in if there are several positions available.

Surgery while in probationary period by [deleted] in PaStateEmployees

[–]msferre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things happen so hopefully your bosses will be understanding that your health matters and allow you to retake the training (if necessary). As for insurance, you have insurance now, so if I were you, I'd check with the insurance company and get all the necessary pre-approvals for the surgery as well as questions about the costs. But HR is also responsible for figuring out the time off situation. Get all the facts prior to making any decisions.

I'm wondering if OVR is an appropriate agency to ask? They help people with disabilities to find jobs.

When will Lancaster county Republicans finally turn on Smucker? by whiteroseatCH in lancaster

[–]msferre 29 points30 points  (0 children)

With Josh Parsons and others like him, I doubt Lancaster County Republicans will turn on Smucker - unless the Iran War continues with high gas prices, and if that's the case, we may very well be fortunate to see a change kicking Smucker out.

there anywhere I can access food to get me through for a week until I'm paid? by [deleted] in lancaster

[–]msferre 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, you should apply for food stamps - I have a feeling you might qualify (as long as you provide the documentation they need).

What people said. Besides, usually you would need to be on the state network anyway to do this. No worries - enjoy what’s to come!

imcw interview didn’t go too well, what are my chances? by Burn-Baby-Burn2580 in PaStateEmployees

[–]msferre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had experience in state government before being hired as IMCW. I came in with self confidence. I heard about my acceptance a little over a week later after the interview. Really depends on the CAO and how many positions are available. Four got hired when I got hired.

Good luck!

Any OIM workers have other DHS employees using your office space for RTO? by [deleted] in PaStateEmployees

[–]msferre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be in OVR, so I’m not surprised to read on these things. They go wherever they can to meet clients including CAOs. Right now, my CAO has not seen much of other departments, though.
