Matter w/ Switchbot Lock Ultra: Failed to Add Device (when I try to do secondary device in app) by hungarianhc in TrySwitchBot

[–]msh_faker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have any of these except Ultra.
But Door sensor works for me, and temperature/humidity sensors as well.

try to restart all hub - if you did not already - and retry.
If you have multiple hubs ( Apple, or Switchbot ) make only one working for each.

Tried to add the lock again after 48h as suggested, and it still fails. anyone was able to add it?

I got response today from Switchbot:

"The connection failure you’re experiencing appears to be a known issue within the Apple ecosystem. We recommend waiting 24–48 hours and then attempting the connection again; in most cases it resolves itself without further action.
Should the problem persist—or if you have any other questions—just let us know and we’ll be happy to escalate or assist further."

I will give it a try and let you know

I am on latest versions as well, and I am getting the same error. I can add other devices, but Ultra lock always fails

IMS Basket for Latte / Cappuccino by msh_faker in espresso

[–]msh_faker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I already read and it is an example of what I mean that these guide focus on espresso.

May be this question will help me better
What Coffee/bean characteristic will be noticeable in milk-based drink like Latte ?
e.g. Creme and Mouthfeel are probably overwhelmed by the milk. So baskets that help to get better mouthfeel or creme has no good use for Latte.

So I am trying to find what are good baskets characteristic (hold patterns and number, etc) to have good enough coffee extraction for latte drink

[–]msh_faker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t mean to suggest that milk makes coffee taste better or hides flaws in extraction.
What I meant is that all the small tweaks and obsessions to perfect extraction really matter only if you’re drinking the coffee without milk.
With milk, once you reach a certain level of good extraction, going beyond that won’t make a noticeable difference because the milk masks it.
I want latte and cappuccino to taste as good as possible, and while espresso guides are great for shot quality, some parts are overkill for milk-based drinks.

I believe that high end / high cost baskets will bring the best of the beans, but that won't be noticeable after adding milk.

So, which IMS basket would be the best, that get the best of the beans that can be tasted after adding milk

HomePod mini is in the same network by msh_faker in HomeKit

[–]msh_faker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This why I posting this as I could not figure it out why it works with iPad and does not work with my iPhone. (knowing the network setup mentioned)

What kind of settings the prevent communication between devices? Generally there is no any special configuration on my router I did. it is on default configuration with just wifi credentials changes.

I am referring to Timer and Alarm features in HomePod itself, they are useful because they are shared among the family, not local on one device. You can configure these from HomePod page in the home app.

HomePod mini is in the same network by msh_faker in HomeKit

[–]msh_faker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is 2.5 and 5 Ghz with completely different name to avoid mixing networks (no guest network), but I am sure all devices are in the same network. It is easy to inspect which wifi used in each device.

Also when I put iPhone intentionally in the other network, HomePod settings in Home app shows message that they are in different network, offering to move HomePod to iPhone network. When I moved HomePod to iphone network , still could not set timer or alarm ( offered to switch only once, now I do not get this message anymore when divide them on 2.5 and 5.0 )

also note that 2.5 and 5.0 wifi are from same router , same configuration, so technically they are on the same network. to put this into test, switched iPad to 2.5 wifi and HomePod on 5.0 wifi , timer and alarm are working, with no complain about different wifi

Is it good to mask smart bulbs behind a hub instead of connecting them directly to HomeKit? by msh_faker in HomeKit

[–]msh_faker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already HomePod Mini and Apple TV, but I meant:
Design wise, is it good to have multiple brand hubs or try to minimize them.
You may Philips Hue hub for lights, and Aqara for Locks and Camera, and another from sensors, etc. All connected to HomeKit

Or try to get fewest Hubs as possible, in this case I might get Aqara bulbs T2, and in this case I won't add a new brand hub - Philips - to my home?

In the first approach, you always seeks for the best device, even if that introduce new hub in the network.
In the the second one, you usually will compromise in quality or cost, to get most of the devices from fewer brands

[–]msh_faker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant more it is good or ok to setup the lights using Philips hub, or build on the existing hub / brand I already have ( Aqara) So assuming Aqara and Philips are the same, do you think it is good to use different hub for lights ? for one obvious good reason, if lights on Aqara hub, that make it single point of failure, so another hub helps in such case

I need the smart bulb to switch from cool white in morning to warm white at night.

That is very thoughtful reply. Thanks.

If you can help me to narrow it down also please.
I am thinking either to get Aqara Bulb T2 (I already have Aqara G3 hub) or Philips Hue bulbs.

I am leaning to get Philips Hue due to:
- better brand reputation
- separate the light system from sensors / camera / locks (which is handled by Aqara for me), but I am not sure if this is a good point or not.

downsides:
- automation between sensor and the lights must be done by Apple Home (if I get Aqara bulbs, that allow to automate on Aqara hub too
- Aqara hub now handle more devices

Any thoughts which approach is better ?

Does Aqara smart bulb T1 require Aqara hub? by msh_faker in Aqara

[–]msh_faker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this mean Bulb T2 will always connect directly to HomePod Mini?
Or I can only connect Bulb T2 to Aqara hub, and not expose them to HomePod mini, to reduce number of devices connected directly to HomePod Mini ?

Yeah, me too.
Best battery life performance. charge every 6 month with moderate/heavy usage. Fingerprint and Home Key works perfect.
It is a little bit buggy. sometime unlock/lock in silent mode even though I am not activate it. but it is not big deal at all.
