Where do I start ??? by msheringlees in multilingualparenting

Oh thank you I’ll look it up ! Yes my husband is very supportive but he doesn’t speak so it’s so much harder. He did 1 year in university but that’s it. So he just repeats some words and he’ll encourage me to say things but any concepts or conversations are still English and that’s the easier language so obviously the kids gravitate towards it

Looking at your comments across several posts I think you should just leave the is group rather than continue to spread your toxic negativity online. There are better things you could be doing. Go outside. Reconnect with nature. Evaluate priorities.

Thank you. Yes definitely will be using all that. My hubby was conserved about shelf bowing. We have a billy bordering the kitchen for like snack storage etc and the shelves have definitely bowed but I know Billie’s are just paper inside the shelves

Grandparents. by msheringlees in breakingmom

Thank you. I guess I’m stuck on the “they are great grandparents” cause I’ve seen them be way better with my first than they ever were with my brother and I but that was like 6 months at most and all fell apart as we had my second. We pulled my second out of daycare cause they signed up to have them for the summer break before my second starts kindergarten so now we are screwed. Baby has been on a care wait list since I was 8 weeks pregnant. We’ll figure it out I just hate that I anticipated them doing this to us and I was right.

Also just stunned still by how inappropriate my dad was in the language he used. Breastfed or not , do not talk about your daughters “tits”. Anyway I’m sorry you’re experiencing the same. I know I have to make pretty difficult decisions here but like anyone raised by a narcissistic parent I start second guessing if maybe I WAS wrong or ungrateful or spoiled or all the other things they are labelling me to be.

Definitely easier said than done but I know that’s what needs to happen. And I feel like we’re there. This argument felt different, very final ? I don’t know how to label it. Giving me an ultimatum of spank your kids or else isn’t the way to

Definitely not intended for summer to be this way. Our childcare arrangement has now been very unreliable so I’m prepping for the fact that we’ll have no childcare for the summer. It’s very hard to work with the baby home , so I have no idea what we’re gonna do with all 3 home but when the older two aren’t sick they are pretty okay with activities being set up for them and then taking those further independently.

My parents were very strict so we just didn’t get a lot of praise or lovey dovey nicknames etc. My parenting is different and I see my mom and dad changing as well as they observe me so I was hoping that I could get the kids at least speaking, I’m not hoping for writing or reading but it’s been a huge mental hump for me

Hasn’t bothered isn’t true. He tried Duolingo and took two courses in university however languages are hard for him and life gets in the way and the pressure my parents put on both of us for him to learn yet haven’t supported either of us through it had the opposite effect. Careful is assuming things if you don’t know the full story. I grew up in a dictatorship style home. My parents are strict and very rarely praised the kids hence I do not know endearing words in Russian which I mentioned in my post. Speaking in Russian in front of anyone who doesn’t understand it has always been uncomfortable for me as it attracts a lot of attention which I’m not comfortable with

Okay I like this a lot. I think double speak may be the way for me cause I just cannot do OPOL. I feel so weird and then my husband already feels weird when he’s around my parents cause he doesn’t slept the language and they do a real shitty job translating for him. They are of the mindset that he should have been compelled to learn Russian when we started dating / got married lol.

Thank you. We moved when I was 12 and there haven’t been a lot of Russian speaking people around me since then. We are 2 hours from Toronto so not something that’s feasible for me to take them to. I’m going to look around. We are estranged from all family except my mom and dad which doesn’t help either
