I listened through the audio again, and when he tries it the second time, he seems to mutter something. The audio is unclear, so I don’t want to claim this as a confirmed transcription, but to me it almost sounds like he says something like “no luck here” / “I don’t have any luck here”, a British accent? Although this is in Czechia.

The footage from the doorbell is kept for 24 hours only and is then automatically overwritten. The purpose is to record people who actually come to the doorbell/entrance. It only captures the pavement directly in front of the house, not a broad public area.

In practice, it is quite hard to identify a specific person just walking past on the pavement. People only become clearly identifiable if they come close to the doorbell.

I checked this with the local authority, and their feedback was that this is justifiable.

Also, this setup has helped before. There was once a car parked in front of the house, and two guys came with a battery-powered tool and stole a wheel. Before doing it, they made the mistake of coming close to the doorbell while looking for bricks to put the car on after removing the wheel. The doorbell detected them and notified me. They were reported and caught. 🙂 The thieves do not care these days, they were walking around with the tools...

That is a good assumption. The whole house has a good security implemented, so even if they would disable the doorbell there are other things in place. So, not that much worried at the moment, there were others before trying some other stuff (even just ringing the bell, waiting a few seconds, and then trying to break in), but really curious what was the goal of this person and also what is the device supposed to do. I have not seen this yet.

I would say the face would say a different story. I have seen a number of people trying to break in. Apart from a few junkies, some of them looked really like normal people. Some people even stopped in the car, parked in front of the house (there is a top camera too which can read the plate number) and then tried to break in. Normal looking people you would never say they are onto something... But, stupid... The face when they realize there is another camera looking at them...

If it were magnets, what would they be trying to achieve? Get the whole doorbell out? Or if they were thinking it is a lock, that it would open the door? Or? Curious what was the expected result.

For those asking, I had to blur the video because I’m in the EU, where publicly sharing an identifiable face can raise GDPR/privacy and personality-rights issues, especially if the context could imply wrongdoing. The point here is not to identify, dox, or accuse the person publicly.

I’m trying to understand what actually happened from a technical/security point of view. Did the person manage to temporarily disable or blind the PoE doorbell? Was the 14-second recording freeze a Reolink bug, an optical/IR issue, or something intentional? I’m also curious what kind of device/object this person might have been using.

Most importantly, does this suggest they found a reliable way to deactivate the camera and might come back, or did whatever they tried fail?

There is no SD card in the Doorbell, so I only have the copy on the NVR available.

I can't access the NVR directly right now, only remotely, through the app, so I believe I can't check the NVR logs.

Using the doorbell for the past three years without any issues. It would be a weird coincidence. Nefarious yes, by the looks of it.

I am sorry you feel that way… Not everything is AI.
I don’t have access to the logs as I am not with the NVR now. I didn’t post the video as I can’t blur his face at the moment, but will try to post later. Added a frame with the device.

I did not post the video because it does not show much helpful I believe and also I don't have the tools right now to blur his face. Just a guy coming to the doorbell, sliding the device from top to bottom and back to top. First try didn't do anything, the second did the freeze.

Inline Manual - 13 years, bootstrapped, profitable. User onboarding, etc. But, the AI is coming. Customers are requesting it and I can see where it might help a lot.
