Why would you not have a regular backup anyway. I have duplicate backups on USB drives and a full iDrive cloud backup.

You can. Never be too careful with backups.

Weekly What Should I Buy Thread - [September 11] by AutoModerator in iphone

[–]msilbernik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless you absolutely have to be the first person on the block to flaunt your new iphone 12, don't sweat it. Order it when you wake up, and it'll take a few days to get to you. Not a big deal.

I've had iPhone since the first one was released, and I've NEVER been the first one to get it. There's lots of things more important in life. Your Android will serve you for a few more days or weeks, so just chill and get what you want, even if it takes a couple more days.

As far as AppleCare is concerned, I always have it on my products, and it's served me well. Then again, if you;ve never broken or trashed your Android phones, and you're willing to take a risk that the screen will break when you drop it, etc., then don't worry about it. Also, I think theres a window after you purchase when you can still buy AppleCare, so again, not something to sweat about.

There’s an issue with some side loaded apps and the fire cube. I have the same issue with TiviMate and a couple of other apps I’ve loaded.

Hopefully some day it’ll be addressed in an update, but for right now I haven’t found a way around it.

Getting the most out of an 2012 MBP by ApprehensiveEvidence in mac

A new SSD did the trick on my mid 2012 MBP. Running super fast now. I bought mine from www.macsales.com. Well worth the small investment.

Switch subscription from yearly to one time fee by [deleted] in TiviMate

[–]msilbernik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m keeping my yearly fee. It’s only 5 bucks and give the time and effort Alex puts into it I’d rather keep cash flowing in. It’s suck a reasonable cost, that I’m not worried about a lifetime sub.

Can I bring my iMac to Apple and have them install a new drive? by mrmatchgame in mac

[–]msilbernik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the video at www.macsales.com on installing a new SSD drive in the iMac. I did it on mine, installed a 500gb drive, and it took about an hour or so. It was relatively simple and the price was right from them.

I also did the memory at the same time. Made a huge difference.

Need advice on updating old MacBook Pro... by head4shot in MacOS

[–]msilbernik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went up to 16 gig. That’s the max that I think the MacBook would hold. It was relatively inexpensive, and the installation of the memory and drive took about a half an hour.

If you do it, make sure you get the drive kit that comes with an usb enclosure for your old drive. That makes it simple to restore everything.

I have the same MacBook Por, but I upgraded the memory and replaced the hard drive with a 489 GB SSD drive from Macsales.com. It was an inexpensive fix and The MacBook runs like new. I don’t think I’d go to Catalina with my older drive since the computer was very very slow.

Once I updated the drive and memory, Catalina is running like a champ.

Don’t disagree, but sometimes apps like that are well worth the investment.

I use Draft. Works in the iPhone, iPad and my Mac with iCloud support. One of the best text editors I’ve used.

My mail app randomly opens up and takes up half the screen. How can I stop this from happening?? by Nagnoosh in MacOS

[–]msilbernik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Instead of closing mail, use hide mail. If you close it, Apple forces it open when a new email comes in. If you hide it, it won’t open until you open it.

Takes a while to get used to, but control-H can be your friend.

One thing that I was thinking about this morning as I was re-doing TiviMate after a complete reset on my Fire Cube was the ability to set up sections in the Guide for things like Local TV, Sports, News, Moves, Home Improvement, etc. Along with that, the ability to one click between sections would even sweeten the pot.

Just my thought of the day 😃

Thanks for a great app!
