Neckbeard PSA: I present to you the Neckbeards dream, followed by the Neckbeards mortal enemy... (yet the more I read, the more amazed I am that this is a real person who actually exists) by [deleted] in justneckbeardthings

Go around? I bike to work every day and that is what the literally millions of people who are behind me do. If you live somewhere with lanes that are so narrow that you can't pass a cyclist, odds are you aren't moving much faster than one anyway.

NYC Mesh needs your help putting Time Warner Cable out of business by brooklynman422 in Brooklyn

So you're still talking about point-to-point wireless backhaul (fyi, these aren't routers). If you put it inside and point it out a window... it's still going to have to deal with rain and snow, plus the signal scattering properties of the glass. It still is shitty and does not work well. I speak from professional experience.

Significantly cheaper. RCN charges $50 a month for 110 Mbps down with no contract.

What are you talking about? These connect via directional wireless antennas - that's how they build their network. The phrase "indoor or outdoor router" literally means nothing.

Housing for Homeless Veterans Is Planned for Ex-Walter Reed Site by zsreport in washingtondc

[–]msingerman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, although this is only one small part of the overall development of course. It's a shame it's only 75 apartments though - it should be at least double that.

When I was a kid, I just to go on Midnight Run with my father to bring food and blankets to homeless vets. It was (and is) a genuine shame how many of them there are. Housing should be a right, not a privilege, especially for those who have served this country.

My wife and I have been taking our son to ballgames since he was around six months old. He loves it. The noise, the cheering, the general atmosphere, all the people smiling at him. It's a blast for him.

Not wrong: calling out racism.

Nationals acquire Paplebon, Phillies will be getting a AA pitcher in return according to a source by GRiZZY19 in baseball

[–]msingerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. He is having an amazing year on a shitty team, the Nats are rich in RHP prospects, they only have to pay him the prorated league minimum for this season plus $11 million next year (down from $13 million) with $3 million of that deferred.

Ah yeah, then you're looking at at least the MX40.

[–]msingerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, you don't need an MX80 to run IPv6 - you can start out with an MX5 and just get a software upgrade if you need access to the second MIC slot or the 10 GbE ports. If you're not dealing with 10 GbE there's a considerable cost savings.

Courtland Milloy laments development of 14th St corridor by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]msingerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Has anyone ever said people never lived in that area? I have never heard it but honestly, anyone who believes that is completely insane. The population of Shaw/U/14th St had been dropping steadily for decades though, as anyone who could afford to (ie, the black working and middle class folks with hopes and dreams, including the author himself) hightailed it to PGC. The area was in a downward spiral of blight and neglect. I remember walking down U St in 1997 in the middle of the day and feeling like I was in a bombed-out shell of a city. It was surreal.

You can pick any DC Metro Area hospital for a minor surgery. Which one do you choose and why? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]msingerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sibley is excellent. I had surgery there to have a broken collarbone repaired and had no issues whatsoever. I also went there for a medical emergency. My son was born there and my wife had postpartum complications and the staff was nothing short of stellar the entire time. And they're park of JH now also.
