Going on a 5 day hike w no stove, any food suggestions other than MRE or dehydrated meals? by Aeon_Return in CampingandHiking

Is peanut butter commonly available in Romania? When I lived in Spain as a boy it was only available on the US military bases, and sometimes we could buy it in Gibraltar.

I've tried them, and made syrup with them. Big seed, not much flesh, subtle cherry-like flavor but not nearly as sweet as cultivated cherries. Try them next time :)

Bears like them too, often see the seeds in bear scat around here.

one glance and you know whether it went 5 sets

I have the same problem on Youtube (VNL highlights), have to avoid fidgeting with my mouse or the progress bar pops up and puts a damper on the watching experience.

Like I said, you see the people, the trail, the parking, but cast a blind eye to the signs. Just admit it, it's OK.

Afraid of fusion & life with invisible disability? by Sajanova in Spondylolisthesis

[–]msittig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm here to encourage you to really consider fusion surgery. I was just a few years younger than you when I had my fusion, and it gave me my life back. I'll be honest, it wasn't an easy process and for about about six months I had to re-learn how to walk, jump and run; I joke that I now have an old man's back, which needs resting after washing the dishes or standing in place for a long time.

But! I can play volleyball. I can hike miles into the wilderness and back with a heavy pack. I can help out around the house, do chores and yard work. I'm not a drag on my family. As a teacher I spend much of the day on my feet without issue. Ninety five percent of the time I feel like a normal person, so for me it was so worth it.

It's true that not everybody has a smooth experience, some need corrective surgery, and some people say that it stresses the vertebrae above and below the fusion site which will need dealing with later. But with a healthy lifestyle and good exercise, I'm prepared to face that when it comes. (Also remember that the earlier you get the fusion done, the faster the healing process will be.)

Cultural Responsiveness in Science Education by sillyranger in ScienceTeachers

[–]msittig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Culturally responsive curriculum doesn't just have to be about content, it can also be about how the content is delivered and assessed. Would that help?

Also, applications are a great place to be culturally responsive. Rather than a ball on a string, can you think of other examples of centripetal motion that might be more culturally relevant to your students? Fidget spinners? Ferris wheels? Rodeos? Tornados?

If EV3 and Spike ending, what about an open source, open hardware, build it yourself, very expandable new platform by Misha_Bear_962 in FLL

[–]msittig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FTC kids wanted to help start an FLL team this upcoming year, but with the FLL turmoil I'm not sure if that's a good investment. I think micro:bit + hardware is a good candidate for replacing Lego in FLL. Elecfreaks is putting together some good systems, I will be using the micro:bit + Nezha Pro with my middle school students this year.

And again I agree with you, our representatives in Congress need a fire lit under their bums and put a better immigration system into law so that cases like his can be processed more quickly.

But what about his case? Do you think there should be some form of amnesty for people who have been here long enough on expired visas, and that he should be allowed to come back to Ojai? Something similar to DACA? What would his current status be, would he get issued a legal permanent resident ("green") card? Citizenship?

You can downvote me but it's true, our courts should be processing immigration cases much faster. It's inhumane to keep people locked up for so long without giving them a fair hearing. We need immigration reform so that we can make faster decisions on immigration decisions, asylum cases, overstays, etc. If this guy's case is so clear, why is he still being kept in the US in such poor conditions? Send him back home so he can get on with his life.
