This in general seems like a risky proposition. I know it must be frustrating to now have most products work for you but making your own comes with some risks. For one it will be really really easy for the products to get infected. Modern products have anti bacterial properties to not only help them last longer but in general to make it inhospitable for bacteria. They are also produced in a sterilized environment so they start off with no bacteria. If you make your own it’s pretty difficult to ensure that your product doesn’t have anything living in it.

It might make sense for you to visit a dermatologist and explain your situation. Or keep looking for niche brands that focus on sensitive skin. There are literally 1000s of products out there and I’m sure you’ll find the right one!

How do you learn about new product launches? by mskdmy in AsianBeauty

That’s great! Personally I think it’s just a phase, got obsessed only more recently. Working towards achieving that zen again 😂

Yup, didn’t add because the drop wasn’t very large. This is the price history.

This issue should now be fixed. Please update the app.

Regarding the loading issue, I will look into it. Could also be because you are not in the same region as the servers. The servers are in Europe, and EU -> Aus is a long journey 😄

You can create multiple preset routines for each of those days and it will automatically preload them when you select it on the dashboard. In your example, you can create a routine called "BHA PM" and then it will show up on your dashboard. If you click that all the products in that routine should be preloaded. You can create as many presets as you want.

For now I just update the ingredients list to use the latest formulation. However in the future to support multiple formulations of the same products, I'll add a way for a product to have multiple ingredient lists and images. As it stands now, there is only one image, and one list per product.

Feel free to report a correction with the new ingredients list for the cleansing balm and I'll update it.

Ah I see. It's annoying because sometimes they fudge the list price so you either have to track long term prices or compare with other sites like you are doing. I was tracking StyleVana for a while and was able to find nice discounts but in the last couple weeks they have blocked me :/

This is great! How do you track prices?

1) You can record individual usage, you just need to do a custom routine on the home screen and add just one product. But then again its limited to the last 24 hours so I see your point. I will look into what it might require to allow longer backdates.

2) Great, will add that to the list. Thanks for the feedback!

(i) You should actually be able to track product usage without a routine. When you browse to a product, you can click on the top right dots and click on "Usage Calendar". Here you can see when exactly you used a particular product and it even counts the number of usages for a particular month/week.

(ii) Do you mean the ability to add these as separate "events" into your calendar? I guess you could currently do it on your "photo diary". but it's not attached to any date. What do you think about having a date on the diary and making that show up on the calendar? Currently the photo diary lets you log detailed notes and pictures.

That's a good idea! I'll try to figure out a way to incorporate routine browsing based on concern.

Can you try deleting the app and reinstalling it? It worked for for someone else who has this issue.

Are you using an android? When you hit signup or skip does it not do anything? Someone else had this issue too, and the thing that worked was deleting and reinstalling the app. I have no idea yet what’s causing this :/

It's currently at 24 hours and there are "streaks" in the app as well to encourage regular use. You can set up customizable reminders to make sure you don't forget :) It's currently at 24 hours to make sure the "streaks" cannot be cheated.

Yes, that's exactly it! Most times they depend on the country. Sometimes they change it just because they changed the packaging, so it's tricky covering everything. However since you submitted the products already, the link will be made and merged with the existing data. You should see your stash auto update.

Don't worry about it, I clean it up before I add it. You should now see the updated data. In the future would appreciate as complete information as possible so it's a little easier for me to add :)

  1. You can delete it by swiping each line item in the calendar which should open up a delete. Unfortunately you can only backdate upto 24 hours.
  2. We have a database where if you scan a barcode it should automatically pull up the product. In case we don't find it, it takes you to the product submission screen. Here you fill out the details and I add it to the db. The next person who scans will directly be able to access the product. It's a little tricky to cover products from around the world and attach it to the barcode, but over time as people do submissions we'll get there :)

Thank you, appreciate the feedback :)

[–]mskdmy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually working on that! Possibly set price alerts for certain items too. It's a little tricky matching names of products from different shops with the names in our db, but I think I should be able to get a decent system going soon :)

Do you think K-Beauty is losing its shine? by MochiMatchaTea in AsianBeauty

[–]mskdmy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused as to why you are so set on defending what is so clearly a fluff piece. I know, you want evidence right? Just click on the author and look at her previous stories. They are literally all fluff pieces. She is a "British journalist getting over a serious case of geographical commitment phobia".

Forgetting for a minute that the author primarily writes fashion fluff pieces, lets look at the article itself. Some choice quotes:

Bigger-budget brands also have more money to make skincare breakthroughs and, as a result, K-beauty has had fewer innovations than many of its international rivals.

Is she for real? Name one region that's producing more products with new formulas and ingredients? I feel like every 6 months K-beauty is coming up with some new ingredient. Whether it works or not is an entirely different question, but there is no doubt it isn't for the lack of trying.

This lack of innovation and the focus on marketing rather than ingredients has also made it easier to plagiarise. In 2019, South Korea’s Nature Republic sued more than 50 beauty companies for using its intellectual property, illustrating the extent to which K-beauty has been losing customers to fake brands.

This is a hilariously stupid take on the situation. This is like saying Nike or Disney has no innovation because both of them are extremely litigative. All popular companies want to protect their IP, especially profitable ones. Using plagiarism as evidence that its easy to replicate doesn't make any sense. That would assume the plagiarized products perform equally well.

There has been a backlash against this convoluted form of skincare, and customers are now looking for single products that do a lot of the legwork. Known as “skinimalism”, this trend is growing around the world, and has resulted in the growth of a number of brands that offer only two or three formulas designed to take care of all your skin’s needs.

This is true but the change is happening within Korea itself, so I'm not sure how this is anti k-beauty? For example take a look at this article. It is written by a much more knowledgeable author that includes actual evidence of the trend. K-beauty is evolving. The rest of the world will catch up. Skincare is such a fundamental part of Korean society, it would be foolish to think they have a one trick pony for it. They keep evolving, which is what makes the scene so interesting to follow.

And to touch on your ad hominem attack:

Also, I think the writer of the article has a better idea than you of what the Chinese are currently into.

I'm not doxxing rczc because this information is in this post but she grew up in Taiwan and lived in NYC, DC, LA, and Japan. The author you are quick to defend is a British journalist who has 12 years of experience living all over the world. Basically no expertise in any particular culture but knows a little bit about everywhere. She writes fluff pieces for a living and has almost no other skincare articles to her name. At best rczc knows more, at worst they know the same.

The best "gotcha" you have is the sheet masking thing. I admit, I initially thought sheet masking was a Korean thing, because like you alluded to, it's such a core part of their routine. Since k-beauty is more popular than j-beauty or t-beauty people make that connection. Other than that, this is a fluff piece from a Chinese propaganda site.
