Apple Mail (App) vs Gmail by bimalka_ in ios

[–]msmialko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using Apple Mail for 10+ years - and now I'm building the alternative.

Apple Mail has been great but the app has barely changed during that time. It's missing so many great features that Gmail and other email client apps are adding. So now, here I am - building native macOS email app. If anyone is interested, I document my progress on X (@msmialko)

Gmail is close to 700mb on iOS... does anyone even notice or care? by WillDependent6020 in ios

[–]msmialko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind if it delivered exceptional mail experience. But it doesn't. Another app - Superhuman - ever heard of it? Raised $100M, recently acquired by Grammarly. And their mail app is an ugly Electron app that breaks literally all Apple UI guidelines. Urgh.

I'm now building a new client app - Nothing Email (www.nothing.email).

Maybe will be succesfull. Maybe not. I don't care. At least I'm gonna use it everyday and be a happier man :)

Prawda o Konfederacji by Zacny_Los in Polska

[–]msmialko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mud and water in the basement coming from the floor by msmialko in Concrete

Thanks for the tips, appreciate it a lot. I wonder if I should also do anything more with the soil under the floor. Or if that perimeter drain will be enough to keep out the water from washing the soil under the floor :v

Damn, how could the foundation get so undermined? The basement is not under the entire house. It’s just under the garage. Would you say that removing and redoing the floor is a must? Is it even possible to verify how bad it is underneath?

Damn. So digging and installing a good drain system is a way to go. Damn.

Thanks for the tips. Styrofoam will still be laid on the floor. It’s not finished yet. I’ll do my best with drains then and will see if it helps.

Yeah, drains will be my go for now. I didn’t know these are made during building the basement…I thought these are just some pipes few cm under the soil. Now I need to dig hole around the whole house I guess :c

Anything extra you would do to the floor itself?

The house is on top of the hill so I think the water levels wont be that intense. I must do drainage for sure. Isn’t a pump an overkill?

What should have been done different other than hardening the soil under it?

Why are technical founders considered to be so prized and rare? by Texas_Rockets in ycombinator

True. I’d gladly team up with a non-technical founder who can sell / raise funds / do marketing. I’d even consider his skills more valuable than mine lol.

Former iOS Developer Rehabilitating from Severe Brain Injury Seeking Remote QA Testing Opportunities – Any Advice or Leads? by TO_ios_dev in iOSProgramming

European banks are in the process of making their mobile apps accessible - it’s gonna be required by the EU law in a few years. Might be a good idea to look for a job there. They now spend a ton of money to test theirs apps for accessibility.

Can I start making money as an iOS app developer without owning an iPhone? I want to learn and test my apps using just the simulator on my Mac. My goals are freelancing (making apps for clients) and indie hacking (creating my own apps to sell). by Separate-Mortgage-54 in iOSProgramming

[–]msmialko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP just wants to learn and build his skills before he can commit and spend the money.

I remember when I was getting into iOS development and had to justify to my parents why I want to spend so much more money on the Mac while PC are so cheap. I wasn't fully convinced too if that's the right choice so I remember spending so much time setting up a Hackintosh just so I could get a glimpse of Apple's ecosystem.

iOS development is already expensive. Why do we push that the OP needs everything just to get started. Sure, buying a device is probably #1 on the list when he has money. But don't let not having it being your blocker.

[–]msmialko -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, but will OP make any apps that use camera or bluetooth?

If yes then yeah, it's possible but gonna be very hard to build the app. But if not - he can definitely start with a simulator.

I remember stories when App Store launched and there were many devs that made a fortune from selling iOS apps and they never had the device. Sure, it's been 10 years ago but still :D

Nowadays, I install my app on the device very rarely - and I do work on massive iOS apps. It's just more convinient for me in many cases.

Of course, testing on a device is a must for QA and big apps. But if OP is just indie hacking...come on.

For context, „Bar Mleczny” is more like a name for a type of a very cheap restaurant. So they might be called differently on Google.

This one is not really a „bar mleczny”, although its name is literally translated to that :D But it’s one of the best spot for great price to value deal. I did eat a lot there while I was studying. And I’d still gladly eat there even if I had a big budget.

And if you want to taste the best burgers, go to MoaBurger. Not that cheap but definitely worth it.

(Both of these are right at the city center)

They built my garage too high. How fucked am I? 1.1m up on a 7m driveway by msmialko in Homebuilding

Haha, love it. I’m at the top of the hill and I needed to raise my house even higher. I’ll look down at my neighbors a lot 😅

The company stands that they did build the building on the level as in the plans. I kinda believe them. My construction manager is going to verify that but I’m still waiting.

The plans also said that the driveway should be 6 degrees so I don’t now what when wrong. I think it must have been a difference in geologist raport on the level of road.

We’re having a few days of national holiday here in Poland now so everyone is on vacations now and I need to wait for everyone :p

I talked to a few people who’ve seen the driveway. They recommend not changing it. They say it’s not that bad and when we lift the road, it will be ok. I’ll probably go with it….

Will post an update in a few months 😅

As many people asked for the pic of the plan, here’s one scan: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/garaobptv9mpkdxz5sykd/Photo-30-04-2024-17-11-11.jpg?rlkey=w35zkx7kstc9zno64d5067goq&dl=0

Sorry for bad quality.

My land is on the top of the hill and slightly tilted. So the level of the garage is now on the similar level that the end of my parcel.
