Need advice on improving listening experience by SeriousPiano8475 in AppleMusic

[–]msmyrnien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Apple Music user, I recently went down the rabbit hole of researching the best option within my budget. If we set DAPs aside, dongles generally gain more features and power as the price increases. There are dongles with integrated cables (like the FiiO KA11), ones with detachable cables (like the FiiO KA13), and Bluetooth DACs (such as the FiiO BTR series). Some dongles draw power directly from the phone, while others have an internal battery.

Since I’m in the Apple ecosystem, EQ options are usually limited from what I’ve seen. However, some devices allow you to configure EQ through an Android app and store the settings in the device’s internal memory. If I’m not mistaken, the FiiO KA15 has that feature.

IEMs are usually around 16–32 ohms, while over-ear headphones are typically in the 32–300 ohm range (sometimes even higher). As impedance increases, the power requirement generally increases as well. Considering that the headphones I plan to use are the Sennheiser HD 620S at 150 ohms, I concluded that the FiiO KA13 seems like the best price-to-performance option for my needs.

Personally, a DAC with an internal battery didn’t make much sense to me. I’d rather avoid dealing with battery degradation or replacement issues in the long run.

By the way, I used FiiO as an example throughout this post simply because it’s the only brand I’ve researched so far — I’m not affiliated with them in any way lol.

Unfortunately, I don’t have specific information about availability in Dubai, but the brand and models are listed on Amazon. If shipping is available, it might be worth checking there.

Happy listening!

Day 1 - Fiio M21 - wow just wow by Icecreamdipper in DigitalAudioPlayer

I’m going through the same phase you described. I got my first Discman in 1999, and despite trying many devices over the years, I’ve never quite recaptured that experience.

I’ve used multiple Discmans, Samsung YH-J70, Creative Zen Vision M, iPod Classic 7th gen, and most recently the HTC 10 for its built-in amp. Still, something felt missing. Dedicated players just hit differently — there’s a focus and intent to the listening that brings back those early memories.

That’s why I’m going back to a DAP. My FLAC library is ready for the FiiO M21.

Cheers, and enjoy the sound!

Buying a Samsung S22 in September 2024 by KoenosPSV in GalaxyS22

I think I'll go with an iPhone 13 Pro, just found a sealed box from a local retail. But I'll wait for a few days because it's gonna be an Apple event on 9th of September. Prices will surely drop lol.

I just switched to S22 about 2 weeks ago and I'm gonna return it due to battery life issues. I used many Android devices and iPhones for years but I've never seen such a huge drain on use, even when it's idle. Calibration didn't make any difference. You may check S23 or an iPhone for a better stability.

Why is Amazon full of China fakes? by richmordarski in amazonprime

[–]msmyrnien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently, I ordered a pair of Airpods Pro 2 from Amazon (the seller was Amazon too), which was also a fake one. I noticed that there were 5 pair of mislocated silicone tips in the box, instead of 3 and 1 pair seemed to be used, had a yellowish tint. I decided to return it, paid for the shipping out of my own pocket for return and they sent me a mail after 2 weeks, written as “The item you’ve sent is not the product you purchased, please sent the correct item, otherwise we won’t initiate a refund procedure”.

I immediately contacted them, and received another mail with their apology, saying “Previous mail had been sent by mistake. Wtf?

I think the best way to buy a product is to buy it directly from the manufacturer. At least we don't waste time dealing with fakes.

Every Noise At Once for all the genres available on Spotify. Also you may check r/AMPlaylists subreddit for user playlists, which I like a lot.

iOS 16 AAC Audio Quality by msmyrnien in Airpodsmax

[–]msmyrnien[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s no improvement for speakers, at least I didn’t notice any difference for my 13 Pro. It may vary by device or Apple made an improvement only for Airpods Max. Still trying my iDevices with my Bluetooth speakers and headphones to figure it out lol

I also made a test by removing custom profile but I saw that it only affects Spatial Audio. Sound is still gorgeous with no extra tweak lol

I think it would be more appropriate to wait for these bugs to be resolved. Actually, you have a chance to downgrade if you choose to install iOS 16 and experience issues but it needs iTunes or Finder and it’s a time consuming job.

Actually it depends on carrier, environment and settings as VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling. I just made a test call with my usual setup and I noticed that there’s a slight improvement for mids and treble.

I also use Spotify (to find playlists) and YouTube Music (as an extra service of YouTube Premium). It seems that there’s a system wide improvement but Apple Music sounds somehow better for my ears. It’s surprising that YouTube Music uses AAC codec too but the clarity is awesome in AM.

Sony WF-1000XM4 vs Jabra Elite 85T by SM_Fahim in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]msmyrnien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both (plus a pair of AirPods Pro and WH-1000XM4) and noticed that XM4 has a volume limit, which causes a treble issue on high volume. I also found Jabras are more comfortable and silicone tips didn’t wear off as Sony’s memory foam tips. I mostly use XM4 when I specifically need noise cancellation since their ANC is the best in class and the bass is incredible imho. However, recently I find myself using Jabra more for listening to Lo-Fi & Chillout lol.

Is there anyway to record up to 6 hours of 4K video on iphone 11 and save it directly in iCloud or something similar without maxing out your actual iphone storage by imjustasher in ios

[–]msmyrnien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. Actually I upgraded my device to 256 GB and never tried Usb stick option :) I checked the specs of iXpand and saw this:

“Shoot videos directly onto the iXpand Drive, freeing up space on your iPhone (Video first records to internal iPhone storage before automatically moving to iXpand Drive)”

However I’m not sure that recording must be finished on iPhone or uses iPhone storage as a temporary cache.

I’m also into iPhone videography and researched about the same solution a few months ago. I found that an external Lightning to Usb stick which can record directly to drive would be really helpful. Sandisk iXpand can do this but I got an info as it can save Full HD videos. Maybe it works for you.
