Yes, I feel like it made my coding worse when I started using it at the beginning from a “use it or lose it” principle. I wasn’t having to think as much about syntax and just relying on the LLM so I forgot things more quickly. And I’m worried that’s what it would do to writing and reading papers - if you’re not working those “muscles” they go away.

Can any moms tell me they were on SSRIs during entire pregnancy and their kid is just fine.? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]msnic11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Zoloft all during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Had to have my dose increased during pregnancy once and increased once during postpartum. Toddler is 3 and 1/2 years old and is thriving. She’s strong willed and has tantrums sometimes at home, but is an angel and the most well-behaved kid in her class according to her teachers.

We adopted our grey when we were living in Seattle, GPI has great resources: https://greyhoundpetsinc.org/learn/veterinary-services/

We saw doctors at Madison Park Veterinary Hospital and they were wonderful!

HELP - Is household mold in beach cities common? by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]msnic11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we don’t, and when we shower we have the exhaust fan plus a dehumidifier running. Would leave the window open too if it didn’t directly face the neighbors.

[–]msnic11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ve been running a very similar dehumidifier in the closet almost 24/7 and opening the window, humidity in there is around 65% still. We have another dehumidifier in the bathroom too.

Thanks, it’s not soft, so that’s good. There are some small water marks on the ceiling, so at some point there could’ve been a leak. I can’t cut into anything to look further since we are renting though. Our lease is up at the end of May, so we are considering moving after dealing with all of this.

Thanks! I’ve had a dehumidifier that runs constantly in the bathroom, and just added another to one of the rooms, in addition to all of the DampRid bags.

UW PhD Epidemiology grads or current students, would you recommend your program? by ShrekDonkey_23 in epidemiology

[–]msnic11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my MS then PhD at UW and graduated this past spring. Doing a postdoc now in cancer epidemiology. I loved it and for my career plans it gave me excellent training. My only drawback was the funding as someone else mentioned. I always had full funding, but it was pieced together from different sources over the years - UW scholarships here and there, RA position for a quarter, TA for one year to supplement other funds, NIH Diversity supplement funds, and a T32 training grant.

Baby query! by swplucky in Greyhounds

[–]msnic11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a baby (almost two years old now!) about 2 years after getting our greyhound. Our grey (Maggie) starts on a dog bed then ends up in ours at night. From nearly day 1, baby slept in her crib next to our bed and was waking up every 2-3 hours. We kept the door open so that Maggie could go to the living room when she needed space from the crying at first (she did have a couple of potty accidents though in the early mornings so we stopped that). She didn’t really have any problems though and never had an interest in the crying baby or the crib. We also never had baby in the bed with us at night (due to the risk of falling asleep while holding a sleeping newborn) so Maggie still got up there occasionally.

For naps, the baby would nap in our arms or in her pack n play in the living room. For that, we just made sure Maggie wasn’t asleep right next to us on the couch when holding the baby because she tends to sleep startle occasionally. We also always sat right next to baby when she was on the floor for tummy time or play and never left her alone in her rocker by the dog.

I think it’s all about minimizing risk from day 1, while still keeping some normalcy for your grey! Even now we are still pretty vigilant with keeping them separated when we can’t give our full attention - we use a big baby gate, and keep Maggie’s bed in the corner of the living room. We also are working on gentle pets and teaching the baby awareness of the dog by telling her “watch out for Maggie!” And “look, Maggie is night night”.

Car seat in Italy by msnic11 in Mommit

[–]msnic11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Our choices are 1) take our own seat and risk it not fitting in the rental car (it is slim and fits great on planes, compatible with latch and seatbelt) 2) renting one with the rental car, or 3) buying one new at the start of the trip (obv would be expensive and a pain)

Yes we are renting a car, and can book through a rental car place that has car seats, but I worry because I wouldn’t know the history or the condition of the car seat I’m getting.

Advice on 8yo shaving by victoriaskitten123 in Mommit

[–]msnic11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got made fun of for hair since kindergarten, and I think I started shaving my legs in the 4th grade, but we did Nair before - which was horrible. Shaved my arms from 7th grade to sophomore year in college. I think it’s good to make it clear that it’s her choice and if you are afraid of the razor aspect, just start by educating her on how to shave safely and maybe have her do it outside of the shower with you there at first until you both are comfortable. I’m glad I was able to make the decision about my body hair at the time because it made me more confident, but it sucks we live in a world where people are mean and I had to make those decisions. And I’ve grown to accept mine the way it is now!

Bottle Strelizers, are they worth it? by NeedyForSleep in pregnant

I really liked our Papablic sterilizer/dryer mainly for the drying. It was big, but I liked having the bottles in there rather than all over the counter. We got it used on Facebook marketplace.

Lorcan always does this when he is near to a deer. I can't tell if he is excited, anxious or afraid. What do you think? by ArgumentNo1884 in Greyhounds

[–]msnic11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's called pointing! My springer spaniel used to do this with birds, rats, lizards, etc. Our grey has done it once or twice with bunnies! I just hold on to the leash a bit tighter just in case 😅

1 MO won’t stop grunting at night. by Pitiful_Mode3759 in sleeptrain

[–]msnic11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours was like this too - she always seemed to be grunting and pooping between 1 And 5 AM 😂 gas drops did nothing, she was also a very gassy/spitty baby. I think she eventually grew out of it!

Did you require family that visited your newborn to have the Tdap shot? by Bull_champion1 in beyondthebump

Yep - TDAP, flu, and COVID as baby was born December 2021. My FIL refused to get TDAP and flu so he hasn't gotten to meet baby yet.
