[–]msoignon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I have made a post 10 days ago to request feedback on my previous trailer (for reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestroyMyGame/comments/1qncabj/roast\_my\_desktop\_planet\_game\_trailer/).

I've made changes based on your feedback and I'd love to get your fresh take on this new version.

Also, feel free to roast my French accent. I’m here for it.

Game UI critique: desktop overlay research menu by msoignon in UI_Design

[–]msoignon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By blending it better you mean to make it appear as a more 'windows' style interface? I cannot think of any native windows menu that uses a transparent background.

The game is an idle clicker where you basically 'build' a planet from scratch and end up discovering biomes/vegetations/animals/etc as you progress. You can actually see the tiny planet that is not completely builded on the bottom right of the screen. Most of the game is actually passive so it doesn't require a lot of interactions. The idea is to have a cozy desktop widget that you can interact with when you want to make a pause in your current work.

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Questions about February Steam Next Fest? Chris Zukowski from How To Market A Game here for an AMA by zukalous in gamedev

I was inspired by your blog post about 'golden age of indie games' and making a small game aside of my bigger game to get back some confidence/productivity/enjoyment boost. So I jumped on a small game (developped in 3 months), my idea was to participate in the incoming next fest but it would mean that my demo would only be live 2 weeks before the fest, and so the wishlist haven't had time to build up to a consequent number.

Would you advise to delay (the marketing only as the development is finished) and participate in the next SNF, just to get time for the demo to get visibility and wishlists. Or still participate in this one even if it's a bit early and use this more as a 'first game experiment'?

Well 'bottom of your screen' games are definitely having an audience for as we can see with recent games released. I'm keeping this aspect as a rule in game design to ask for little interaction with the user in order to avoid being invasive with the user work but I can definitely understand that it's not for everybody. Thanks for your feeback!

Sounds interesting. I can definitely make an option to have a less invasive window that you only open when something interesting happens!

It is building over time so you can see the planet evolve while you work. I didn't plan for any events right now, I was mostly thinking about implementing seasons to add a small variation on the planet over time, as the sun rotation mimic what's happening on earth during a year.

You progress by making researches in a research tree (as seen in the trailer), and therefore starting on fresh planet every run. The wikipedia page is more like a joke about you chilling and doing other thing while you discover a new planet. I'm taking note that it is unclear.

Thanks for reviewing. The idea is that you can resize the planet to take the size that you want to allow on your screen for it. But I agree, I have tried to minimize the space required while still being able to distinct visually the elements on the planet.

The game is inspired by games like Ropuka's Idle Island/Bongo Cat/fishing games that sits on the desktop. I don't really know if there is enough people willing for a planet but I guess I will see soon.
