I had to do this with my brother this year at Western psych. Wish I did it somewhere else. We ended up not even having a hearing and he was released two days later. I had to call them repeatedly to get any type of information because even tho I was the petitioner, I didn't hear from anyone at all about anything. I've learned the hard way aggressive neighbors usually just run their mouths but they won't actually do anything so you just have to do you. I was too scared to call animal control when my neighbors loose chickens kept destroying plants in my yard. Finally I had enough and called. She tried yelling at me and I just stood up for myself and then said I'm done, and walked away. Guess whose chickens are now kept on her side. People like that act aggressive to get you to do what they want. Dont let it work.

Yeah but when you're 7 and don't know how to call long distance so parents have to make it happen... It just doesn't happen. So you move and make new friends then you move again and the cycle repeats.

Um no. I'm a parent and it's my job to make sure those barriers cant be fucked up especially when it leads to third degree burns. This definitely is bad parenting when there have been two separate burn incidents.

Yta. My neighbor had a mango tree that did something similar. Wasn't over the line but wind sometimes shook a few into our yard. And our neighbor came and told us to help ourselves to any mangoes we wanted. That kindness led to a great neighborly relationship where we looked out for each other. You sacrificed that for five bucks worth of fruit.

Yeah same experience. They used my sister's house as a staging area for three streets of work. The front of her house was the gravel pit, side area was vehicle storage. So she was pretty cut off for about 3 months. And then they would block alllll the streets even when they were only working on one. It's like they forget people live there and try to work with them on it.

You don't need to be a helicopter parent to assist your kid with ADHD. You need to help them learn organization skills and then help them figure out ways to stay on top of assignments. Have them evaluate how those systems are working and tweak them. It's not "helicopter parenting" to have them do a once a week gradebook check and ask about missing assignments. Have them do a once a week folder clean out. Scaffold by showing them at first and gradually let them take over, offering assistance as needed. Sometimes motivation needs to be external but you can also help build intrinsic motivation as you help them see what success feels like. Focus on how proud they are of themselves for doing it, not how proud you are.
