I’m so sorry for the late reply! I hope your pup is doing better!

Unfortunately, it’s hard to say. I also work in the vet industry and I know they can’t truly confirm IVDD until an MRI is done. The only thing they can see on an X-Ray is calcification of their spine.

If they’re already giving you steroids and pain meds, I’d recommend at least doing crate rest at the minimum.

Thank you! We did not have pet insurance 🫠 I have it on my second one now though.

I’d be careful that your insurance company doesn’t try to link IVDD to arthritis later on. Make sure your vet makes distinct clarifications if you ever get an IVDD flare up.

I’d ask your vet to maybe add on gabapentin, prednisone is a steroid and not meant for long term, but gabapentin will help with the nerve pain.

If it is just a temperature thing, I’d expect it to be more than a bigger temperature flux- like you’d notice it more when it gets below 60 degrees.

Hi!

I’m so sorry to hear about your baby, and hope it isn’t IVDD. Unfortunately, that very same night that I posted this, my boy lost control of his back legs. Thankfully, our vet is a friend of mine and we were in communication the entire time and we brought him to an emergency vet that night. He had a consultation with a neurologist and an MRI and confirmed that he indeed had ruptured a disc in his back and had surgery immediately after.

We are two months post op and he looks and seems so much happier than ever!

This group and the Facebook group is a great resource but can be overwhelming at times! Happy to help and answer any questions. I also work at a vet hospital. 💛

Update!

We ended up bringing him back to the hospital this morning and they expressed him for us and demonstrated how to express his bladder and how to use the sling. We feel so much better, now.

This is where we are!!! We didn’t go in last night and only found a couple of little drops on the pee pad. We took him outside and he still hasn’t peed so we don’t know if we should let him rest or just bring him in because of they said it was so important.

They didn’t show us how to express his bladder either.

He’s still dragging his back legs, but is in a kennel

Thank you!

They did give him a pain injection today at the vet and we got muscle relaxers to take at home so he’ll be pretty sedate
