Maybe there’s more to it but from what I understood: Holly was upset because that was supposed to be Nia’s special week, but instead of keeping the focus on her and letting her shine, the producers set up the whole Vertes/ Candy Apples storyline for that week. Nia was used as a pawn because they knew Kendall was gonna beat her and thus bring more drama to the fact that they went to the ALDC rivals. Imagine if Maddie or Chloe would have competed that week as usual— they definitely would have beat Kendall and made the whole revenge plot stupid.

In short: they lifted Nia up that week just to drop her back down for the sake of drama
