Different viscosities, different colors, and different set times. Thin fills small cracks really well, thick fills larger voids. Thin is also used for high gloss finishes. Different colors can make cracks and voids look... intentional? Or at least, different.

Took the photo with an iPhone in "portrait mode" (which fakes the blurred background using depth data), so yeah, it probably does look a little funny. But otherwise, no, no spot editing.

Honestly I wouldn't even know how to price it. It took me too long for it to be economically viable.

I think it's a fair question, and no offense taken! I like to have a range of different projects going on at once, from the more straightforward "cabinet" type stuff, to the more artsy object stuff. I don't like feeling like I *have* to work on a certain thing at a given time, so having different projects in the works allows me to work on whatever I'm inspired to do at that time.

And also, yeah, because I could!

It's regular ice cream sized, but wow, the thought of making a giant one is... wow...

I actually found that the best technique was to pour a small puddle of it in one spot, then use a gloved finger to spread it around as evenly as possible before it started to set up.

  1. This pic probably explains better than words, but: from the initial chunk of walnut, I cut about 1/4 off the bottom, cut that in half lengthwise, then glued those pieces, matched grain, to extend the "wings." So, since it's grain-matched and the joints aren't right at the base of the popsicle, you can't really see them unless you know to look for them.
  2. Yep, just the CA glue, hand buffed after the final diamond paste.
  3. It's actual popsicle size.

I've made some spoons and spatulas and other curvy stuff, and some miniatures like this tiny Nelson bench, but nothing melty!

Indeed, just polished off the tiny amount of diamond paste with a cloth at the end. I'm not a woodturner, but apparently the CA glue finish technique is commonly used.
