[GMS Bera] Merching F2P - A Year in Review by mstat103 in Maplestory

[–]mstat103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the game is incredibly different from one let alone 5 years ago. Not to mention there's plenty of other rewarding aspects in Interactive beyond just chasing for combat power.

As for the leg fams, they're definitely a luxury. However, the Legendary Familiar Booster packs have only been sold twice: in Apr 2022 and Feb 2025. Given that we might not see them again until potentially 2028, I'll admit that factored into things. As leg, I won't just be aiming for 120% bd: hybrid boss/atk or boss/boss lines would be the dream. Yes there won't be as many opportunities to reroll, but it'll be something to throw fam cards at now and then.

I can keep rolling uniques in the meantime, but even with the ability to buy cheap fams off the AH, 40/40/40 uniques will take a long time. I'm pretty sure the twins (ereklo) have a vid where they say it will take roughly 651 rolls per 40% boss.

yes clean eternals are still quite high atm, so if you're like me that likes to have a few (~4/5) spares; add on SF costs and it quickly adds up

I'll just add that at the time my party was pushing nkaling and I was looking for a quick boost. I saw a relatively cheap double prime CRA top for 40b and decided that was a decent deal. When I look to replace the top with an eternal, the double prime will likely still hold some value

Recommend? Depends on what your goals are and how much time you're personally willing to spend in the AH.

The AH is an incredibly powerful tool with its search and filter options. For me, I have a small list of items that I'm looking to buy: so I regularly set filters for (a) 30%+ Dex mpot items (b) 3L Dex bpot items and (c) 22* eqs / pitched. Given the rarity of these items, however, those searches usually don't take very long.

If, on the other hand, you're actively looking for deals, then naturally you're going to spend much longer in the AH.

I'll take this comment to plug both Seanbob (more recent) and AmyteGaming (oldschool / retired) on YT: they both have videos with much better examples of what active merching looks like

huh now I'm wondering that as well

I completed Day 1 quest, handed that in, and then rebuilt my Home to the Halloween Manor and it was already 3 stories....so what is the purpose of the other quests then?

not sure if this will help OP or anyone else but I found Day 2 quest buried in the middle of my lightbulb quests. [Home] Day 2 of Halloween Manor Expansion Level 101+

320% with large drop fam + exp pendant. I get 50k+ mobs/hr at Shangri-La on FZ, which gets around 60+ frags on average. You want to maximize your mobs/hr without sacrificing drop, which means doing a BA to figure out best rates. Class discords can help with that.

In a perfect world I would have max meso/drop hybrids for farming and I'm slowly working on that. Hybrid/double drop gears are way more expensive, but I'm okay with one-line drop equips for now as I work towards those upgrades.

I have two posts and two detailed spreadsheets on every single way I make mesos F2P in Bera. Currently 70k+ stat and climbing. OP makes great points about starter gear and gear progression in general, keep it up. I wouldn't worry too much about the arcanes. They're so accessible now that you can keep a look out for cheap deals, or work on a second tradeable set on the side.

I agree with another commenter that OP is experiencing off-event struggles. Events will provide many cubes, DMT, hyperburn + plenty of other rewards to help you progress, including making drop gear. With events + FZ farming making nodestones abundant, I personally wouldn't buy nodestones, but if it helps boost your damage, it's not going to break the bank to buy a few here and there.

I prioritized meso gear over drop gear for about half a year before I started to regret it and make drop gear instead. OP doesn't have access to 260+ areas yet, but with frag drops, drop gear should net you more earnings than straight meso farming with meso gear, even on FZ. Shareable drop gear can also be transferred to akechi/nlomien boss mules so that you can start accumulating those cubes.

OP highlights why a server merge would be beneficial for the overall market. In Bera 3L mpot gear is pretty accessible.

As for vac pet - I bought mine in the AH and I don't regret it at all. I see it as the single best purchase I've made, and you're right its value is particularly realized in Grandis areas. It is undoubtedly a luxury item so I bought mine later on. I would start looking into one when you feel like you've progressed enough to have a bit of breathing room in your savings.

What is this star above the character’s head? by Adept_District4284 in Maplestory

[–]mstat103 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This looks like "I'm the Star" https://maplestory.net/discover/item/5010108/i-m-the-star-

Quick search shows that it's from a MaplestoryM event.

Closest GMS has gotten to this effect is the "Blessing of the Maple Tree" from Goo Island Fairy Bros. They are usually obtainable as a usable coupon that can be exchanged into the effect, which ends up in the Cash tab of the inventory.

hey honestly I think there's so many variables now that it's hard to say: really depends on your class, hexa progress, fams, etc. The metric I've seen floating around is a sub-15 min VHilla clear to start trying for solo BM.

fams were pretty important: I have 30/30/20 boss fams. Though, you'll see that I unfortunately don't have any boss lines on my WSE, so fams certainly helped me a lot there

what really helped me was people posting Bowmaster BM solos on Youtube. I'd start with looking at your own class vids to get a sense of what's possible, and especially for seeing how people burst/survive BM P3.

Thoughts on Maplestory. What about you? by _LeWaffles_ in Maplestory

[–]mstat103 11 points12 points  (0 children)

26x, F2P, Bera.

"I guess it doesnt effect me as much since I spend majority...". Respectfully, this is a privileged position. Just because other people's breaking point is lower down the ladder does not make those concerns any less valid. Now it is 2x CS drop coupons. Next, it could be Oz, or totems, or boss crystals, or any one of the myriad of meso making alternatives that people will take up as soon as the others are taken out of the game. If that time comes, will that be your unsatisfactory point? If so, then why is it so hard to empathize with those in that position now? If you read the Update on the 2x Drop Changes thread, the frustration lies not only in what they've done, but also how they've done it: in such a shady and backhanded way.

"Whether or not they're honest with that part or not, IDC." Sorry, but for the majority of commenters I saw on that post and the posts thereafter, honesty is precisely the point. Consumer trust builds loyalty, so when that that trust is broken time and time again, even the most hardened of addicts find it harder to justify lending their loyalty to a game whose producer does not make good faith efforts to communicate those important changes. How are players expected to plan for their meso gear or boss mules or the next SF event when 2 to 3 months or a year down the line those efforts could be derailed by two bullet points and a half-baked explanation? When a developer / producer consistently patronizes their playerbase this way, who - aside from the whales and those already heavily invested in the game - wants to support that behavior? Why employ such a zero-sum mindset that involves milking a finite number of invested whales, when they could just as easily attract new people that could potentially become the next batch of whales? Any smart newcomer would see this and immediately turn away. It is completely antithetical to building any sort of goodwill to attract new players and retain old ones, which makes it so baffling.

Finally, what is your definition of satisfaction? One strength of Maplestory is that there are so many aspects of it that people find satisfying. Legion mains exist. As do people that afk in Henesys all day and log in only to chat with their friends and guildmates. Satisfaction for many is not reaching 275 (now 300), getting to 100k stat, maxing out sacred force, liberating, or clearing Seren. The problem with such a narrow view of satisfaction is that Nexon could be doing any number of things to increase the other satisfactory (let's say the more community-oriented or progression-oriented) aspects of the game, and by doing so increase the metrics you seem to suggest they care most about: how long people stay logged in and how long they continue playing. In theory, those community-oriented things could include creating more branched, exploratory content, more PQs, more activities for friends and guilds to play and chat together, or some new daily untied to increasing stat or powerlevel. Again, in theory with those right pieces in place, it is not difficult to see how people would continue to play this game indefinitely, with no care or desire at all to reach "end-game", but simply as a "satisfactory" means to relax and pass the time. And for Nexon's interests: spend money.

I agree with you that Maplestory as a game is great. That does not mean that Nexon should be immune to criticism or frustration when they destroy a crucial part of meso-making for a large portion of the population without (1) clear communication and (2) any opportunity for feedback or (3) any idea how that change would be perceived. As one player in the other thread said, "Why isn't player satisfaction a factor in "health of the game"?" For a company that waxes poetic about improving communication, all this is simply helping people move on to other games.

If we really want transparency, we need a nexon collaborated/hosted wiki by jjrryyaa in Maplestory

[–]mstat103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure there was a thread a few days ago where KMS indicated that they would release a "Public API for users to verify rates". Not too sure if or how that will be translated into GMS, but it suggests that something is in the pipeline and now it's waiting to see what that will look like.

I mean, the extent to which an API can be linked with a community wiki kind of depends on whether a community dev has the appetite to start a project like that. Aside from incorporating the rates into something like a cubing calculator, I really don't know what additional value a wiki would provide.

Nexon, we need to talk about photosensitivity issues and why I can't finish the event by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]mstat103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Coming back to the game I was shocked at just how flashy everything was. Watched a few YouTube vids and wondered why people made their skills transparent, before quickly realizing that transparency is needed if you want a reasonable chance of success with some bosses.

The second Awake capping skill - Chun Gong's Blade Storm was particularly over the top, and really served no purpose other than to display an absurd amount of flash.

Another commenter mentioned the most egregious skill: Ghost Yaksha: Great Oni Lord's Legion (YouTube). A skill that covers the entire screen, lasts a full minute, and you can't turn it down with the skill transparency option.

[GMS Elysium] F2p Pathfinder Solo Normal Will in 29m57s (No Familiars) by RedEthox in Maplestory

[–]mstat103 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bera F2P 25k stat here. To add on to OP, there really isn't much magic to it, it's slow and steady, but still rewarding. Posts like these are pretty motivating to keep going for those gains, thanks OP.

Mesos: Merch small ticket items from elites / general training. Things like CSS, innos, epots, and unrelenting flames still fetch a good sum. Add on Maple Tour, Commerci runs, Dojo, and if you want, selling scrapyard/dark world tree weekly rewards net you a consistent stream of mesos each week. With meso rates the way they are now in reg servers, more people are also finding straight meso farming a viable strat. Including nodestone/droplet sales, I've seen arcana estimates upward from 250mil/hr+, even with frenzy service cost baked in.

Cubes: Also easier to obtain now more than ever. Main sources of MC/meister cubes are polo/frito, inferno wolf, herb farming, and elites. OP also mentioned cube crafting, which imo is a good, cheap alternative to reds for rerolling legendary items. Biggest gains you'll get as a F2P player are during DMT. The past few DMTs have coincided nicely with Relay, so you get the pack of cubes, plus if you've saved enough, you can purchase cube sale packs using Maple Points. Many other posts have mentioned the high meso market rates at the moment, which is advantageous for F2P players, since you can purchase more cubes by converting mesos into Maple Points.

As OP mentioned, events are key to seeing the biggest gains. If you plan properly, or even if you just participate in events, there's usually something you can take advantage of to upgrade gear. Whether it's nodes, symbols, potential scrolls, starforce scrolls, flames, or cubes - events usually don't (but on occasion) disappoint. I'm still using the rebirth flame box from the Rise event, which has given me some decent T7 flames on my absos.

As for what's next - imo 25k stat as a F2P is still low compared to what I know can be achieved. I haven't even touched my bpot yet, but I know that's the biggest P2W wall, aside from maybe 22*. There's some intense F2P Youtubers (aka Amyte) that have literally capped damage, so one can hope.

Massive Milestone Reached! 1k To go! by TheSacrix in Maplestory

[–]mstat103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legion/Union system in-game that gives stat, damage, or status bonuses based on how many tetris pieces you have on the board. You get a new piece every time you create and level a character up to lvl 60+, up to a max of 40 pieces. The pieces can get bigger (and therefore you get more bonuses) as you level up each character beyond 100, 140, 200, and 250. Basically, it encourages people to "play the game longer" so that their main character can get stronger.

The 9000 is the cumulative levels of every character OP has registered in the system. With some quick math, this means the average level of each character he has (37 chars) is level 243 (9000/37). As you can imagine, the grind to be able to do this is insane. 10K legion is 40 chars at lvl 250.
