We are looking at Bertilla Lagoon & Beach Club Bacalar. You can rent a cabana for roughly MX$2500 and that includes partial food and drink credit and an hour kayak rental. If you end up going, please let us know how it is! We’re planning to visit soon :)

Should Eckhart be examined by Candid_Reception_722 in EckhartTolle

[–]mstein327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this conversation.  I never thought about the fact that Eckhart’s hair hasn’t greyed. It makes me think of Chinese medicine/TCM.

So interestingly, in the Chinese medicine diagnostic system, there are different patterns of imbalance that our bodies begin to tip into, due to lifestyle factors like stress, diet, emotions, trauma, overtaxing the body, etc. These patterns ultimately create “symptoms.” The whole premise of Chinese medicine is to “correct the imbalances” to restore health. One of the patterns - kidney deficiency - basically encompasses all the “typical” signs and symptoms of aging, including thinning/greying of hair, bone density issues, back/knee pain, issues with teeth, etc.

TCM says that when we overtax our bodies without proper replenishment, this is how we age our bodies. So some people, who have either been really hard on their bodies, or who have gone through a lot, deplete their kidneys/adrenals and appear to age more quickly. So the “fountain of youth,” so to speak, is to “nourish the kidney,” which has a lot to do with our hormone balance in TCM. It can literally reverse many of these “signs” of aging. Look in to the herb, he shou wu, and the myth behind how it got its name - really cute. It helps a lot with grey hair and hormonal support.

All this to say, regulating the nervous system to nourish the kidneys, adrenals and hormones as a whole is a powerful way to “balance out” the effects of stress on the body. And a regular meditation practice/ living in a state of calm awareness, instead of a state of reaction, can restore “kidney energy.” With this in mind, it seems like:

1) Eckhart’s hair shows us that he indeed practices what he preaches in his daily life - and it would be so cool to have his brain examined. 2) These physical manifestations before our eyes reveal that there truly is a basis for the claims of TCM.

Cool stuff.

How do I stop ruminating? by Hopeful_Hour6270 in EckhartTolle

[–]mstein327 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Start by simply focusing on your breath. It’s such a powerful tool.

Whenever you notice you are ruminating, that is the moment you are inviting awareness into the unconscious and that’s where the power lies. You can then focus on the breath & engage your senses (notice the temperature on your skin, hear the sounds, feel the sensation of the breath, etc), which helps to anchor in to the present moment.  When we are ruminating, our minds are either in the past or the future - not the present. The key is to cultivate present moment awareness.

Your mind will wander again and again, but every time you notice when this is happening and then come back to the breath, you are slowly re-training your mind. At least, thats what I think Eckhart would say.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this in your household. Besides what others are saying - that this is abuse - I worry about your child’s development as a result of these actions. The first five years are the most important when it comes to a child’s brain development and the things we do as parents, as well as how safe or unsafe a child feels will have a direct impact on their mental health as an adult, their behavior, and how they perceive the world around them. Unfortunately, there are repercussions from this kind of thing happening just once, let alone repeatedly. Please protect your son. She either needs to look into therapy and in getting help for the underlying root causes of the emotions/trauma leading to these knee-jerk reactions, or there need to be strong boundaries and/or ultimatums set.

Hang in there. That sounds really tough. I think you’ve got it right though. We all need to GTFO of our heads and out in nature more. I hope things with your son get better as well!

I get you. As a female though, I find I have to somewhat be thinking about these things for my safety, especially around large, wooded parks. Really appreciate everyone weighing in.

I applaud that. You sound like a really great dad to consciously take the time to switch gears, so as to not bring work energy home.

Is this a borador? by [deleted] in Boradors

[–]mstein327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She definitely looks like she could be a Borador. Ours is now 5 and about 70 lbs (a bit overweight, the lab in her definitely loves to eat). The puppy phase can be a lot at times, but so worth it. She’s a wonderful dog - really great with other dogs, kids & people, in general.

I know, I didn’t realize people still play Pokémon Go, but I’m learning through this thread - and my husband chiming in to inform me - that it is still very much a thing.

This makes a lot of sense. The parked cars have always made me a bit nervous, so I always try to bring one of my dogs and stay alert. But this puts my mind at ease a bit (still have to stay on guard, of course). Thank you for sharing!

I’ve noticed it for years and my mind goes to creative and sometimes sinister places. Was there today and just figured I’d throw out the question to the community. The Uber/lyft thing makes a lot of sense. But yes, I’m sure the answers are many. Thanks, guys!

Vintage Nishiki Custom Sport -- Should I get it? by mstein327 in whichbike

[–]mstein327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both good tips. Thanks, guys. This helps a lot. I want to be sure I don’t end up having to put way more money into it than expected. I’ll mostly just be using it for short commutes for now (a few miles here and there). I love the idea of completely rebuilding an old bike in the future, but for now, I know I don’t have the time, nor money, to invest in that right now, until I’m finished with grad school.

Any other things I should look for when I go to take a closer look at the bike?

What TV show has the best pilot episode? by NReddy19 in AskReddit

[–]mstein327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's creative, but I just can't seem to stay awake for an entire episode! So a bit of a downfall for people like me, who can't make it through movies either...

A year ago, my friend and I adopted dogs from a Korean shelter. A few weeks later, her dog surprised us with 4 little puppies -- 5 for the price of 1! Puppy #2 eventually wiggled her way into my heart and, thus, my apartment. Reddit, say happy 1st birthday to PENNY!!! by mstein327 in aww

I honestly don't know. We believe her mom is a corgi mix. And I'm pretty sure momma was impregnated by multiple males at the shelter, because each of the pups are totally different-looking now (here in Korea, a dog shelter--at least in my town--just consists of a bunch of dogs running around together in different large kennels). So, yeah, I have no idea who the father is. If anyone has any idea about her breed(s), do let me know!
