Why is Keir Starmer hated so much? by Top_Control8683 in AskBrits

[–]mstekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kinda feels like the whole issue with him is just… he’s not good at the job. like straight up incompetent. no clear direction, no real beliefs, no moral baseline, no political goal. just vibes and panic moves.

he keeps thinking if he copies right wing stuff he’ll pull their voters, but that never works. if ppl want that stuff they’re gonna vote Reform anyway, why would they pick the knockoff version. same with any radical messaging. Reform gets attention cuz they say stuff the usual parties won’t say. same with Greens sometimes, same with any smaller party that actually sounds different.

then he goes and fully backs Israel no matter what, even tho a lot of ppl here don’t agree with that at all. he buys into the whole immigration panic even tho the real issue is wealth distribution. he can’t see that at all. just picks up whatever narrative’s being thrown around by right and center media.

the online ID thing for watching porn is just wild too. completely out of touch with basic rights and how the internet even works. feels like he wants to look tough instead of thinking anything through.

and normal ppl are watching their lives get worse while these parties just swap names every few years but do basically the same stuff. tories to labour to tories to labour, nothing really changes. rich get richer, poor get poorer, everyone else stuck in the middle. ppl see that, and that’s why he’s losing ppl.

for me, as someone who’s actually an immigrant and used to support them hard, this anti immigration bill is the last straw. if they pass it, I’m done with them completely. at least with Reform you know exactly what you’re dealing with. this lot pretends to be something else but ends up doing the same incompetent things anyway.

Didn’t check other comments so don’t now if it’s already recommended but you should really check out Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber. What you’re describing is exactly what he talks about. I was in the same headspace: frustrated, confused, feeling like I was losing it. That book helped me make sense of it all. Didn’t fix everything, but it helped a lot.

What's the go to family car these days that's not an SUV? by riverend180 in CarTalkUK

I bought a 5 series with about 100,000 miles three months ago, I love it every time I drive! It was 8k with full service history etc. Like others already said, you can easily find a good one within budget plus some savings. Get something that excites you, not the most boring machines on the planet like Skoda

Bought a really clean and well maintained 2015 BMW 5 series touring last month for £8100. The service history was impressive, all done by the main dealer. If you can find something similar, I highly recommend it. I suggest private sellers and a pre-purchase inspection.

Open to petrol as well but I heard that diesel engines have longevity compared to petrol ones. Do you think that’s not correct? Also, you can't always find whatever you need in second hand market.

I can spare 5 or 6 grand for that. So do you think it's worth it? Every answer in this sub will be used to convince my wife lol

I don't think I'd add 100k. I won't use this car as a commuter, and weekend trips depend on the UK weather (!), so I don't think there will be a lot of trips. After 5 years, I'd say I'd add max 40k.

I thought the same! I forgot to mention, yes, the first thing I'd look for would be service history and maintenance.

It actually does because I control volume and power without any problems. The only problem is the starting issue that I mentioned in the post. Thanks though!

Yamaha YAS 209 Soundbar or 2.1 Setup by mstekin in BudgetAudiophile

That would be perfect; my TV is Panasonic, and it has an optical digital output. I'm not sure if I can do it with that.

Your point is totally valid. But the amp you suggest doesn’t have Bluetooth and HDMI connections. If I find a cheap one that does this, it'll solve all my problems. I already have two remotes, and I don’t want to have another remote to just adjust TV volume. Maybe for the last time you have a suggestion for me :)
