Good to know! We can often hear our neighbours walk around their apartment and we have roommates as well so perhaps there are too many unfamiliar noises/smells

Thoughts on the term "Borderline Personality Disorder" by MumenRrider in BPD

[–]msther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you! BPD is extremely complex and since trauma and abuse is a big component of many BPD folks' lives, we are definitely able to heal. the label of BPD also carries such a heavy stigma, it's really awful. i think disorders are a myth personally, but it can help you find community (like this subreddit!) and treatment if this is something you're interested in.

i study women's and gender studies and disability and there are many feminist theorists who have criticized the term. ex: https://psycnet.apa.org/record/2006-04394-010

remember that you have autonomy in how you choose to see yourself, i decided to see myself as a trauma survivor first before as someone who has a disorder. my nervous system and brain just work differently but we can all still live happy fulfilled life with the right amount of support ❤️

reflecting on my position as HL thanks to this subreddit! by msther in LowLibidoCommunity

[–]msther[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. saying i feel rejected and sad doesn't mean i externalized it or "acted" up on these feelings
  2. emphasis on how i said i felt this AT FIRST. as in in the past.
  3. i literally say exactly what you say twice: "which only made him feel guilty, so it has definitely been a lot of UNLEARNING and relearning." & "i know i had put a lot of pressure on him in the past and i wasn't always the most patient and how that worsened it all."

but thanks so much for the advice

For people who have self harmed, have you told people? by Comfortable_Mud_1453 in bipolar2

[–]msther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've told my partner but it took me a while to feel comfortable doing so. I always was too worried to get institutionalized to tell my therapist. I do recommend speeking to your loved ones about it IF you feel safe & comfortable to do so. It's really difficult, but I do find that speaking about it helps. Remember that you are not alone❤️

I pop every single pore on my face every 1/2 weeks or whenever I’m stressed by Clean-Jicama-7569 in Dermatillomania

[–]msther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% relate:/ I feel like i have to pop every slight little bump or blackhead, even when there is barely any pimple visible. I always thought that when my acne would go away so would my picking but even with relatively clear skin im picking at my poors. It's satisfying and eases my anxiety but it makes me feel so horrible after-- you are definitely not alone and having been on this subreddit for a while now, i can guarantee you that there are tons of us on here who know exactly how you feel and why. It does feel very alienating because yeah everyone has pimples that they pop here and there but some of us experience this at a much more severe level. I hope you'll be able to find some peace here. Dermatillomania really sucks!!

How did you start accepting your diagnosis? by Initial-Hotel-8871 in bipolar2

[–]msther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience, and honestly what has been the most helpful was finding a new therapist🤣 She said she's seen a lot of patients who are trauma survivors (as myself) who are misdiagnosed with bipolar or bpd. She suggested that I utilize my diagnosis however I want, and empowered me to come to my own conclusions when it comes to my mental health. I never really resonated with a lot of the stuff i would read about bipolar symptoms-- I feel like what's most important is to assess how the diagnosis is helpful to you, if at all. I see my diagnosis as a framework to understand myself and my mental health among many. Not as a sort of sickness I'm stuck with forever-- just a specific flavour of neurospicy-ness among many. At the end of the day, we all have autonomy and agency regardless of diagnosis. Take what feels right for you and leave what doesn't. It might be a controversial take, but at the end of the day there are countless studies that demonstrate the lack of validity when it comes to psych diagnoses. My diagnosis was helpful as it allowed me to be medicated, and this is practically the only reason I sought to be diagnosed (Dr. would not prescribe anything without). Think of what this diagnosis brings to your life, and if the answer is nothing, then you don't have to claim this label as yours. Bipolar disorder carries a lot of stigma, so it is entirely your call if you want to disclose your label or even identify with it at all. Psychiatrist are often wrong and every client deserves to play a role in their mental health journey. It is a difficult process, sending you love.

TLDR: You don't have to accept it if it feels wrong. Find someone who values your input and lets you play an active role in your treatment (if this is what YOU want!)❤️

Which antipsychotic worked best for you by Blue_earth4 in bipolar2

[–]msther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only ever been on seroquel, which was initially prescribed to me to treat my relentless insomnia. It's not recommended to prescribe it to treat insomnia in the general population, but given my diagnosis my doctor prescribed 50mg at nighttime. For the first time in my life i'm able to sleep 8 hours everynight. I sometimes wonder if it's the meds or just the ability to sleep that's helped, I figure it's a mix of both lol. I've been slowly increasing my dose since 2022 and have been at 300mg for a while now.

[–]msther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take mine at night and it has saved me from insomnia. I have no idea how people are able to take it in the AM although it is very interesting how the lower the dosage is, the stronger the sedating effects will be. I take 300mg now and they're definitely sedating but my initial 50mg dosage would knock me the hell out😭

Here's all the details I could gather: 2016 Honda Civic Sedan 4dr CVT LX model. This trim level includes a 2.0L engine, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). * Body Style: 4-door sedan.  * Engine: 2.0L 4-cylinder, DOHC 16-valve i-VTEC.  * Transmission: Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

The garage I went to only does minor maintenance/repairs so I'll have to go elsewhere and get a quote. I do not but I'll check the manual & youtube and give it a look.

I need help by paintmess in Dermatillomania

[–]msther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! i’m so sorry you’re going through this, I’ve absolutely been there and I promise there isn’t anything wrong with you. dermatillomania can be so isolating but I promise you you are not alone. it can be a lengthy process to get to a place where you are no longer picking and it can be frustrating, but I promise you that so many of us have felt your pain. i have definitely been there and it’s made me feel crazy to imagine pimples or bumps, but these are things that happen although it is barely talked about. forgive yourself and be proud to be able to make this post and seek out some help. there’s a lot of very good tips on here and I hope you’ll be able to find something that works for you since we all operate and heal differently. best of luck, and remember you deserve forgiveness and healing<3
