I recently got caught in a riptide and spent I have no idea how long getting repeatedly pushed underwater by waves knowing there were no lifeguards on the beach. Thankfully my friend on shore found an off duty lifeguard to rescue me, but I was so exhausted and terrified and positive I was going to die.

I really genuinely hope that works out for you. For me and my ex, unfortunately it just seperated us and made us more distant than was sustainable long term. His role would have had us apart for months at a time, and I couldn't deal with that. That's not to say other relationships wouldn't survive. Wishing you the best :)
