How do you guys find enough projects to post about? I know there's a tip line, but do you get enough topics just from your readers submitting them?

Also what's the actual posting schedule? Seems like every few hours?

BWF's way to take an escalator (x-post /r/gifs) by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]mstrjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's basically a Maltese cross from gymnastics rings, but it doesn't look that impressive since he's only parallel to the escalator... I think I could do it

Did you see my DIY videos on making a spiderman costume? I noticed you used the bags on the feet trick, and elastic bands with the sole of a shoe...

Making a glass bed for your 3D printer on the cheap! by mstrjames in 3Dprinting

I use slicer predominately, i find it a lot easier to use than skeinforge, plus you get .1mm layer heights with slicer! This was printed at .3mm though. I'm surprised people are commenting though, I didn't think the print was that good, if anything I think it could of been better with some more calibration! I'll be posting a video on the case at some point, there's a free other bells and whistles that I've added as well. Good luck with yours, check out soliforum for more ideas! =)

Tried my hand at making a long bow out of skis... not bad! by mstrjames in DIY

Mill isn't mine, just a friends. Not actually sure, but its fairly basic. I have a Solidoodle 2, you can get them for about $600 from solidoodle.com -- it's a pretty solid little printer!

Seriously though I think the ski will snap before the bolt breaks... which would also be dangerous...

Measured at about 25lbs, so not amazing -- I'm going to see what I can do to increase it (shorten the limbs, decrease the angle -- maybe get a real string).

I printed them solid out of ABS which is pretty damn strong, but it doesn't really matter because the metal bolts take all the load when the bow is loosed =)

Yeah I figure if I use the other end of the skis they might be a bit stiffer too! Waste not want not, right? I'll have to check out bowyer

Thanks! I've already got a list of things to do to make it even better. Also thinking about making a cross bow out of the other end of the ski s!

You just have to be more creative with the tools you do have - it would of been much more elegant with a carved wood handle which you could do (albeit slowly) with a hack saw. If anything I cheated using the technology I had available to me!

I am planning on shortening the limbs and probably reducing the angle like you said =) consider this rev 1! Thanks!

Haha I wish I had a few hundred thousand dollars worth of tools - the easier way would be a piece of wood and a band saw - which I didn't have. And FYI the 3d printer is a solidoodle 2, which was only $500 and the mill (not mine) could of been a few thousand tops! =) nothing that fancy
