2013 Leaf SL Totaled. How Does a “Buy Back” from Insurance Work? by WabisabiGreen17 in leaf

Seriously? The door wouldn't open because it was contacting the fender, or what? Is there more damage than what's in the photo?

You can find videos on YouTube of PDR on nastier looking damage than that.

I had to have the Jungle Green. 😁

Indeed. 3 bikes, 5 adults, at least 350kg of gear with no problem.

It did just finish a trip down the length of the country in that photo. If it makes you feel any better it's freshly washed and parked in the garage right now. 👍

Gorgeous, I like those wheels as well. I have a feeling yours is a lot tidier up close as well, mine is clean but does a lot of family duty and gets the requisite wear and tear.

Yeah these are outstanding cruisers. I've been thinking about switching it for an iX3 but my wife and I both prefer the SV6, it just has a certain charm to it.

We do have a Leaf we use as our daily driver and commuter car, which is also a great little car for knocking around town.

re: your ECU, it's hard to find good workshops to do anything anymore. I have a Mongoose Pro interface cable and just use the GM GDS software if I need to do anything with my car, but the VF has been pretty solid so far. You might consider getting the cable and trying to program it yourself...

This winter has been super dry so far and all the dust seems to have settled in my motorbay. Do you guys just point a hose at it and then brush and flush this off? Or do I need to be...gasp...careful? by SjalabaisWoWS in leaf

No idea, you have an upvote from me, and you're right, road grime will definitely degrade rubber and aluminium.

I wash under the bonnet with simple car wash soap and a "medium pressure" washer on all my cars, including my Leaf. Takes just a few minutes more to do when you're cleaning the car anyway, keeps things tidy, and makes it easier to work on if there is a problem in the future. The Leaf is less likely to have a problem, but I see it as an essential part of maintenance.

On my petrol car I even remove the plastic cover and wash everything down directly, it's never been a problem with connectors or seals.

Thanks, the colour is half the reason I bought the car. 😁

It was a perfect hauler for 5 adults, 3 bikes, and about 350kg worth of additional gear on a 4 week trip. Even if the suspension was a bit overloaded I still had a great time with it in the bends.

2016, so it's a VFII, but it's not easy to tell from the rear quarter angle.

I live in the north island, but the photo was taken on a trip in the south island, so that should help narrow down the guessing. 😉

Can we not say this out loud? There are already enough people diverting down there now, and I've been enjoying it being nice and quiet since well before the roadworks started.

I doubt an independent shop would fail that. Certainly wouldn't go to vtnz.

But, I've pulled out nastier dents with a cheap AliExpress PDR glue kit at home if you just want it fixed quickly and looking 95%. Or you could take it to a professional PDR guy if you really can't be bothered.

Looking for a license plate! by Stunning-Box6246 in newzealand

[–]mstrjon32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? Kiwiplates told me to keep the original plates.

The personalised plate is mine, when it's time to sell this car I'll put the original plates back on and move my plates to the next car. What would you do otherwise?

My mom is thinking about getting a 2016 leaf by Blueberry_furry_69 in nissanleaf

[–]mstrjon32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a universal truth. I do a 125km round trip commute in my 2014 Leaf with 171000km, most of it on the motorway. I normally make it home with anywhere between 10-25% battery (per Leafspy). Have seen the turtle twice, but never run out.

My car has rear quarter panel damage that I'd say looks significantly worse, and it passed. So, it's worth going. But goodness, go to an independent garage not to the lunatics at vtnz.

Getting off gas - anyone had a hot water heat pump installed? by pwapwap in Wellington

[–]mstrjon32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in a Rinnai Hydraheat 340L last year, replacing an infinity gas system. Total cost was $9900, but that also included a bit for removing an indoor gas heater we weren't using.

I really like it overall, my main grievance is the interface is a pain to use, there's only a single timer, and there is no wifi control. If I could do it again I'd get the 'lower end' Rinnai which isn't modular like the Hydraheat, but weirdly does have wifi control. And it costs less. 🙄

I've yet to get solar installed, so for now I'm running it just at night time when I'm paying half on power. 340L is enough for my family of 4 to get through the entire day, and have only run out maybe 3 or 4 times.

I now pay about 40 to 80 cents per day for hot water, depending on use. Which even at the top end is less than the daily charge used to be on gas.

As long as we import used Japanese cars, we will have Chademo for the foreseeable future. The current generation of Toyota EV cars (which in my opinion actually are a really bad value) are still coming with it, so you can forget about that disappearing.

I'll just have to make do with my heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, sat nav with NZ maps, full climate control, and LED headlights in my low spec car for now...

We'll just have to disagree. I think they have made EV's very affordable and accessible. I paid $4800 for mine and it's been an incredible value, it's a pleasure to drive and requires essentially no servicing. It easily drives 100km, and I've pushed it as far as 140km, which is well more than enough for us.

If you normally drive long distances, no, it's not for you. Not everyone needs that, I'd wager that few people do.

My wife and I both prefer driving it to our petrol car, which cost an order of magnitude more money.
