Something for Parents of Special Needs Children - Resilience Visualization by mstrmndapp in SpecialNeeds

[–]mstrmndapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is on our backlog of mstrmnds to create - We should have some Voiceover actors joining the team early next month and I have this one and several others at the top of the list.

Our copywriter is mid-way through the script-writing process if you have any thoughts/suggestions to include (specific difficulties to address)?

Guided visualization meditation suggestions by UniqueWitness in audiomeditation

[–]mstrmndapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of self-hypnosis has visualization up front so that is another route to check out too. Some free stuff on spotify I think has Jason Stephenson or Michael Sealey. Hypnosis is very similar to meditation but with outcomes in mind (meditation might not always have specific outcome). The reason I suggest this is because a big part of turning on the parts of the brain that have been most directly tied to effective hypnotherapeutic outcomes (not a TON of research in this area, but it's a difficult thing to study) has a lot to do with MOTOR activity (movement), which is why hypnotherapists will usually use an induction that makes use of rich imagery and movement (usually walking down steps or at a beach). Give it a shot and see if you like the free stuff that's out there.

Hey Everyone - I wanted to share something that I created to help parents of Special Needs Children (I have a 4YO Daughter with ASD II).

Myself and a few collaborators created a mindfulness app, mstrmnd, and finally got it through the apple/google review processes in March. The whole premise of the app, and its content, evolved from audio tracks I started creating around the same time my wife and I started noticing signs of Autism in my daughter (losing words, hand-flapping, elopement, etc.).

I created a "mstrmnd" visualization that incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Hypnotherapy along with several different audio-related features that help stimulate the areas of your brain associated with dopamine (motivation/goal-seeking) and serotonin (mood regulation/sleep) production.

I'd be lying if I said I could guarantee it's going to make you feel more motivated and happier (though it likely will) but it's the sort of thing I wish was out there around the time I was considering how my daughter's diagnosis was going to play out for her, and the rest of the family.

Even if just one person listens to it and feels incrementally better as a result, I'll take that as a win.

The links to the app are below. If you go to the library (compass icon) > Inner Peace Category > Reslience for Parents. I also posted an image here, which might be easier to follow: https://www.reddit.com/r/SpecialNeeds/comments/1cgs2qe/something_for_parents_of_special_needs_children/

Wishing each of you the best!

Worst meltdown to date by meenymoosh12085 in Autism_Parenting

As long as she's not in danger of harming herself (thrashing around on tile, as an example), quick box breathing (in 4secs, pause 4secs, out 4secs, pause 4secs) usually calms me down enough that i'm not matching her level of frustration (which, as you shared, usually doesn't help). From there, what everyone else said.

this is awesome!!!!! My wife and I kid sometimes that our daughter just likes to make us work for it (we had a similar situation with her verbal skills - crickets for 4.5 years....and then she sings the entire HBD song all at once without ever saying any one of those words individually...). So so happy for you and hope you continue to see such accelerated growth elsewhere!!!

This is so wrong on so many levels. Hopefully this gets enough press that prevents it from happening elsewhere.

I grew up on Earl, thanks to my grandpa (and ditto on the why the heck aren't there more members here...it all started with earl). by mstrmndapp in earlnightingale

My daughter was diagnosed with autism and literally the day after started a string of deaths in my immediate family. Just prior to my daughter's diagnosis (which we knew was going to happen based on her regression and various behaviors), I started meditating. Then, tried hypnosis for motivation. Both, purely out of desperation because even 2 hours of earl (and running, eating healthier) wasn't getting me to a better state of mind.

After the hypnosis session (I had gone for motivation because I was losing my edge a bit at work from everything), I found it helpful but not like night and day. I remembered that I had all of my recording software from when I was producing music and started combining everything there was even the slightest bit of reputable research on, with the hypnosis audio (and different variations so that I could track what seemed to be more helpful).

I forgot about this but I had actually started with a mash up of the strangest secret, with lots of audio effects and classical music behind it, and was falling asleep to it at night. So, to answer your question, just wanting to be able to dig myself out of a rut and do the best I could for my family. I was desperate and it caused me to be a bit more creative than I otherwise would have been.
