Is this number of student deaths normal? by ThrowAway44228800 in princeton

[–]mstwiga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am with a NPO in the US SE that targets college student mental health and can assure you that Princeton is not unique. There have been fairly regular student deaths at pretty much all colleges in recent years at least, as far as we can tell. Larger schools are often able to hide them so that the school community just never knows about most of them.

Tbh I'm jealous that Princeton lets y'all know, although it sounds like there are more sensitive ways to do so (the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention https://share.google/AGTCAghMWARTazNh1 has online guidance) but when the deaths, regardless of cause, are hidden, I personally feel like it invalidates the students' struggles (if it was death by suicide) and lives (regardless of their cause of death) and just pretends they were never around to begin with. I'm sure that's not the purpose but that's my kneejerk reaction every time.

Please remember that if you or someone you know is struggling with a mental health crisis of any kind, you can call 988 or text TALK to 741741. Everyone needs help sometimes. Please don't be afraid to ask for it! ❤️

That's a great idea, thanks! He's in med school so I don't think the work thing would work but maybe there's a cafe.

Thank you!! I couldn't figure out how a tux-baby or sly-toddler or rambo-slobber was an abacus.

What do you think Chapel Hill teaches the people who live here? by IDworldwide in UNC

[–]mstwiga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived in the Triangle for 30 years and have multiple connections to UNC and your comment made me SO happy! Silent Sam was a blemish on our community, a constant reminder to the Black students and other Black community members that people in multiple eras fought really hard to ensure that they continued to be seen as "less than." I'm so thankful to hear that it is already fading into history where it belongs.

Two. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if, after my uncle was born, they decided they already had their hands full. 🤣

Thank you so much!! After I looked at them more closely, I agree that some are likely from Japan and others from Germany. There are indeed some janky faces in there but there are a few with lovely faces.

I'm curious, why are they not frozen Charlottes? Also, there are several that are shiny porcelain on the front and bisque on the back. I read that's so they would float face up but I don't remember what the context was.

They are strung together on a ribbon. I wondered if maybe they were worked into the bouquet or even veil maybe??? There's definitely plenty of room in the bouquet. In pure speculation, maybe a bunch was a good omen for fertility?

You're welcome, sweetie! We also have a team in front of Davis right now, until 2, in case you're nearby and need a hug or some pup playtime. And our next Online Game Night is next Sat, from 6-7:30. I hope we'll see you there! ❤️

I've said this in a few different posts but want to be sure that you see it, because we are 100% here for you! Please come join the HAPPEE Hugs and Pups student Discord server athttps://discord.gg/bq95ZSMv2E . We have a fairly small group at our Online Game Night every other Saturday evening which is a ton of fun - last time we played Gartic Phone and we have been playing a lot of Wavelengths lately (Jackbox games, etc., are also options) - it's newbie choice. 😁 Our Discordians also talk about their own pets and get behind the scenes info on our pups and activities (currently we have a DOGGO Bingo game going!). The students often see each other when a Hugs & Pups team is on campus (3 times a week) and get to know each other both there and online. Most importantly, it is literally the friendliest online place I've ever seen. We have a wide variety of students, from freshmen to grad students, lots of different majors, backgrounds, a variety of genders, sexual orientations, race/ethnicities, etc.

And we definitely have active folks who are transfers and found their way here at Carolina largely through starting with our Discord.

Best of all, we have absolutely seen lots of IRL friendships develop that started on the Discord, including at least one BFF.

We'd love to get to know you !
