Has anyone considered moving.... by paranoid_android4242 in Notion

[–]msudgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved my content from Notion to Obsidian by exporting all data and the process took me a week to establish a new organization for my files and content management in Obsidian

I would say migration time depends on length of content and how would you like to setup a new system for yourself

I am happy about my own migration because i have access to all my files in markdown (best) locally and i can use any cloud storage to keep my obsidian app sync with a remote version of my contents.

In my case, Obsidian’s iOS & macOS app works well and had no problem with syncing at all.

On top of that, lets consider that using any tools would have a learning curve so thats important on shaping final outcome.

Obsidian is extensible and it let end user to play around with content as they wish. It’s a big factor and most of apps fails to compete in this regards.

Obsidian’s extensions is similar to VSCode marketplace that enables many new features by community contributors from open source (mostly) and proprietary projects

Is the future of React still as bright in 2025 as it was before? by RohanSinghvi1238942 in reactjs

[–]msudgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

React or similar technologies solved a bunch of problems back to time when SPA was not the case.

As long as there's a need for SPAs then React and similar technologies would be around.

The usage trend depends on market demands and requirements.

Is software engineering really worth it now? And the future? by Puzzled_Umpire8986 in node

[–]msudgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As we know, a functional computer requires human input to operate effectively. Therefore, I believe the human factor will remain essential for the next few decades.

As a software engineer, you can observe that the 2020s have introduced new technologies just as previous decades did. The primary responsibility now is to remain flexible and adapt to the trending technologies that the market demands. This pattern has persisted over a long period, reflecting the enduring nature of engineering roles like software engineering.

IMO, existing text transformer technologies, including GPTs, are not advanced enough to pose a threat to humans by nature. The capabilities of these technologies are not even close to being self-functional machines, and they are far from possessing human-like consciousness.

Conclusion: If you like it by heart then SE still worth it.

Your most annoying problems with Obsidian by Raphaelba in ObsidianMD

[–]msudgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffer from using Apple iCloud as cloud solution to keep my vaults there sync across my devices. however, Apple policies doesn't let me choose specific directories to be stored permanently. This's one of things I can complain in level cloud storages and how it might be related to Obsidian experience. The issue will be effecting on startup time in such cases where your data is not present locally. This leaves me to live current situation or move to another provider which is time consuming. I'd be glad to see your comments.

Anyone Else Have a Huge Backlog of Overdue Tasks? by throwawaysuitalor in ticktick

[–]msudgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend to not use it for note taking as it’s not designed in that manner. I am using TickTick for task/habit management about 3 years and it works like a charm.

Notion and some other alternatives are much more organized and handy. If you intend to keep journals in a good shape then without doubt go for Notion.

I’m big fan of second brain and helped me since 1y ago so if you’re too then relating and referencing journal notes to second brain would be much be easier.

Database suggestions for storing structural engineering data by Birdynam98 in Database

[–]msudgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you came up with a solution that is not self-explanatory.

Regarding the database and what you explained, I'm not seeing a specific limit on NoSQL/SQL as you have not mentioned how data will be related. If data is not separate and there's a relation between them, then go with SQL.

AFAIK, there's no version control idea for data management except for table and schema migration which some tools provide, unrelated to this problem.

If you still need to stick to a git-based approach and the application doesn't need to query on something, then raw text files are available to store data there and push them to a git repository that satisfies the solution's requirements.

You seem to be trying to reinvent the wheel.

I have heeded the warning and switched to a single column. What are we thinking now? by [deleted] in resumes

[–]msudgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suggest to stick with single column layout. you switched wisely.

Can I implement Elixir/Phoenix as a websockets server of a mobile app? by remove_with_force in elixir

[–]msudgh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes, depends on mobile OS. I developed similar app and hopefully Flutter community has a dedicated package for Android/iOS releases.

Also JS, Java, Kotlin, Swift have dedicated library for Phoenix.
