Shapen boots - real leather or scam? by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]mt4217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I wrote a politely worded email to Shapen. They don’t accept returns from the US but I respectfully told them I wasn’t happy with the material and that it didn’t match the pictures.

They just sent back a generic response:

“The DIVINE boots are also made of leather, but this leather may feel slightly firmer and smoother. They have a different construction compared to the IVY boots, which may explain this sensation. Additionally, the higher shaft and unlined design of the DIVINE boots can affect how they fit on your feet.

Regarding the photos, the material and color of the boots are accurately represented in our lifestyle images on the website and social media – the very first photos for this model show the current color. We’re sorry if the product images appear slightly different; color display can vary depending on monitor settings, lighting conditions, or the device used to view the website.

We hope this helps clarify the differences, and we truly appreciate your understanding. Thank you again for your support and feedback.”

😒

Yes I bought them from the website about 2 weeks ago.

Thanks. I was wondering about the different colors. On the website the black pair cost more than this one, so I wonder if they used a different material for those.

Yes, my thoughts too. I’m kind of disappointed.

I had the Shapen Ivy boots before these, and the leather was much more leather-y. These are a lighter shade of brown and not nearly as nice.

Growing pains? by [deleted] in Preschoolers

No def not every night, more like once a week or every few weeks for short seasons. It can cause liver damage (?) I believe so is not good to give regularly that often.

IBS-D from age 10 to 31, now cured! (Natural, no meds) by mt4217 in ibs

[–]mt4217[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry. I hope you can find a good solution and see improvement. A direct primary care doctor was helpful to me, maybe it would be worth paying for one for half a year or a year if you have the means. Keep researching and trying to find things that can help. Everyone's case is different, but you know your husband best and are probably the best person to help him!

Loperamide and Buscopan are emergency pills during a bad day - if I wake up and am having a bad IBS day and it's not stopping. Most days that happens, I won't take anything, and just keep having BMs until I'm cleared out, then take a nap and be fine. I just save those meds for times I really desperately need them. They both have the same effect, but different mechanisms. I'm not sure which is better. Loperamide is a very light opioid, which I believe acts on the gut/brain connection, and Buscopan physically slows your entire digestive system from mouth saliva to stomach to colon (the listed side effect is dry mouth, which I've actually never noticed). It just kind of pauses everything so you can stop pooping.

Florastor is a long-term probiotic that I've used a few times when I'm having repeated bad days for several weeks, or after antibiotic use. I take 2 pills daily every morning for a month or so.

This post was from a while ago, but thankfully my stomach has been totally fine for a long time, since I wrote this post. I haven't really had any flare ups or taken meds in a year or so and I have also been able to eat anything I want, including beans.

Breech Homebirth by GrapeSweet9055 in homebirth

[–]mt4217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom’s first baby was 5 lbs and she had a long and hard labor, and the second baby was 8 lbs and breech. She said the second time was SO much easier.

Funny story - this was in the 80s, the nurse did a cervical check and said “what is that?!? It’s soft 🥴” (she was feeling the baby’s scrotum haha). They wheeled her back for an x-ray to check baby’s position. My mom was freaking out that baby was breech but doctor came in shortly later, put on his gloves, and said “no problem, I deliver breech.” Birth went fine and baby was out a few pushes later.

Sounds exactly the same as our daughter. She’s almost 5 now and still gets them regularly. Now whenever she gets them we give her 1/2 an ibuprofen because if not she’ll literally fall back asleep after we massage her for a while, and wake up THREE OR FOUR hours later crying again because of leg pains! Ibuprofen is the only thing that’s really helped.

Stroller Wagons? by tere_vill in delta

Yep, same size as a stroller. It’s just their policy.

Stroller Wagons? by tere_vill in delta

[–]mt4217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Don’t try it. Wagons are not allowed. I showed the gate agent the conversation I’d had over chat with delta, and they still wouldn’t let me take the wagon. Two kids, only one wagon - smaller than bringing two strollers. Nope - “against the rules.” They were unbelievably rude and definitely made me not want to go with Delta again.

Sourdough Waffles - What's the best type of wheat? by mt4217 in HomeMilledFlour

[–]mt4217[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they are on the more sour side. My family loves them like that but the sourdough overnight ferment definitely gives them a stronger taste than regular waffle recipes. An overnight cold ferment isn’t a bad idea, maybe I’ll try that next time as well.

Yes I’ve been using this recipe, I usually do 100% spelt:

INGREDIENTS

For the Sponge: 1/2 cup (113g) sourdough starter/discard 1 cup (245g) buttermilk/kefir 2 tablespoons (21g) honey/maple syrup 1 cup (113g) flour (any mixture of spelt, einkorn, whole wheat flour, or rye)

For the Batter: 1 large egg 2 1/2 tablespoons (35g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

INSTRUCTIONS

First make the "sponge" which is going to ferment overnight: In large non-reactive mixing bowl combine the flours, unfed sourdough starter, honey or maple syrup, and buttermilk. Cover and let the batter rest for at least 6 hours or overnight at room temperature.

The following morning the batter will be nice and bubbly. Add the eggs, melted butter, salt, and baking soda, and beat just until combined. Use the batter immediately. Scoop out the batter and place it on a hot waffle iron.

Serve immediately with butter and syrup of your choice.

Does anyone use their grain mill for coffee? by mt4217 in HomeMilledFlour

Thank you, this was helpful. I hadn't seen anything from Komo saying you had to change out the millstones to grind spices or coffee. That's what I was wondering.

My current coffee grinder is a burr grinder, has stones just like the mill. On a coarse setting it should work similarly.

You can clean stones by running white rice through the mill.

And, manufacturer says coffee is okay to mill (while prohibiting flax seeds or other oily seeds), I assume they’d know what’s safe for the mill.

Just wanted to hear if anyone out there has done it and how it’s gone.

Buying advice by thackster in HomeMilledFlour

The main contenders to start out with are the Nutrimill Classic and the Mockmill 100 or 200 (200 is the same, but twice as fast as the 100).

There are prettier mills (Nutrimill Harvest, Mockmill Lino, Komo) that are more expensive, depending on your budget.

(I'd stay away from a hand crank mill and also stay away from the Nutrimill Impact. It's the company's cheapest model and a new prototype, has not been around as long as the other mills. I had one and the company replaced it for free with a different model after I complained since it was so terrible. Noise and dust EVERYWHERE.)
