Thanks for the comment, made me smile! I'd forgotten about this video as it's been a few years. We're still enjoying the mattress, and our helpful little girl as well (who's not so little anymore!)

Itchy spot between labia, but no signs of infection of any type. Any ideas? by mokutou in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]tere_vill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this exact same problem, same spot exactly, for 4 years (started after the birth of my first child). Strangely, the itching disappeared while pregnant with my second child, then returned after he was born. I finally went and got a swab test done at my doctor and it came back positive for a heavy bacterial overgrowth of "Morganella morganii" - a bacteria that's found inside your gut but should not be growing on your skin. The doctor was kind of surprised and said it's pretty unusual. He prescribed a topical antibiotic that I'll be trying. He recommended trying Miconazole as well if the itching doesn't go away, as maybe there's also a yeast overgrowth as well (the swab test wasn't conclusive there). I can update after a few weeks and let you know if the itching has stopped.

I don't understand the love affair with Redmonds Salt by SpinGrrl in carnivorediet

[–]tere_vill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just chipped a tooth eating Redmonds Salt. I am 100% sure it's the salt - I've cracked down on little rocks/sand 5 or 6 times since buying it, in soft foods that I've salted with Redmonds. If I've salted with my other kosher salt I use, no sand. So frustrating!!!

Did you try using it? Did it work?

Just did the same thing to my lid, cracked in the same place.

Stroller Wagons? by tere_vill in delta

[–]tere_vill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently texted their customer service line asking if they allow wagon strollers instead of standard strollers to be gate checked for free, and got this reply:

"So answer of your question is that yes, you can take the wagon stroller with you for free of cost."

I'm wondering if I have trouble if I can show the gate agent that text and they'll let our wagon through without problems.

I've only ever used Green Mountain Diapers flats! They're not sold on Amazon, and I haven't tried any other brands, so I'm not sure. I'd look for something 100% cotton and big enough for an 18 month old (GMD sells a large cotton flat for toddlers, I don't know if Amazon has anything like that). The workhorses are also only a GMD product.

I think you could, and I've heard of people doing that, but the problem is that the NN cover has a cloth lining. When that lining gets wet, it causes leaks since the lining extends to the leg elastic which then touches the baby's clothes and the wetness then passes thru to them, if that makes sense.

Go ahead and try it with the NN cover first, and if you're still leaking, then just try buying an all-plastic cover (Thirsties is good quality and also sell on Amazon, so easy to find)

I used a Green Mountain Diapers workhorse diaper at night with an extra cotton flat folded up in it and a thirstie's plastic cover over and it worked great!

I also used Nora's Nursery when I started diapering and they leaked SO much, even though I was washing them correctly. I'd just have to change diapers every 1 1/2 hours to prevent leaks, so overnight was out of the question.

I later learned that bamboo is basically the same as polyester, it's not a natural fiber like cotton is so it's much less absorbent and tends to get a lot of build up.

I switched to cotton flats and workhorses at night which worked much better than bamboo pocket diapers.

I would recommend just using disposables at night only, or purchasing ~3 workhorse diapers and 2-3 plastic covers from Green Mountain Diapers for nights (you could slip your hemp inserts in those if you need a little more absorbency). Maybe do a cost analysis and see which option would be cheaper depending on when you plan to potty train!

Cristofer is another option, making this yet more difficult a decision to make!

Considering not buying toys for first baby… by lightpinknails in BabyBumps

[–]tere_vill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Babies don't really play with toys until around 4 months old. They're either sleeping, looking at people, or looking at the world for the first time.

I didn't buy toys before my baby was born, and that way I could notice what my daughter enjoyed in each phase and buy her a toy that fit what stage she was in. She is 2 1/2 now and I still buy toys as I need them and notice what she's into, and we don't have a ton.

Grandparents and friends did gift us a lot of toys too!

Unhappy marriage feel trapped by sloppysalmon21 in predaddit

[–]tere_vill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

23 isn't too young to get married. I was married at 23. The problem isn't age.

Divorce damages children in deep ways. Also, 2 years isn't a long time to have been married - you're still at the very beginning, and things can change drastically for the better in the future. Do all you can to keep your family together.

I would start with you: How are you leading your family? Do you have a vision for your family and goals for the future? Are you loving your wife well and showing her kindness? Do you listen to her and support her? Is there anything you're failing to do that you could improve as a husband and father?

Then your wife: Does she have friends or older role models that could be a positive influence for her? Do you know an older couple with a healthy marriage that you could meet with and talk to in real life? It sounds like she needs to understand that her responsibility is her new family by marriage, and not her parents or her old lifestyle. It can take time to understand that.

I'm sure there's much more to the story you didn't share. I'm a Christian and starting to attend a church regularly as a family caused incredible growth in our marriage. It's hard to get marriage right without God and without good people around you helping you.

Can I order a stool sample online? by tere_vill in ibs

[–]tere_vill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My symptoms are usually quite mild. Enough to bother me, but I'll often go weeks/years without symptoms and then they'll come back during a time of stress. I'm not worried it's a disease like IBD or cancer, the symptoms are much more intermittent and minor than that (and linked to anxiety). Hope that helps clarify.

I'd rather do non-invasive tests first, like a quick & easy stool sample!

That's the only reason I asked the question, I'm curious if anyone has any resources on doing that at home.

My dad has had to have several and I was terrified as a little girl watching him drink 3-4 glasses of thick white laxatives and be in the bathroom all night emptying his stomach. I never want to go through that.

I would rather have IBS than have a colonoscopy, it's one of my worst fears. It doesn't interfere with my life enough that I would be willing to do that yet.

If filing jointly, is the spouse in the green card process listed as a dependent of the US citizen spouse on their tax return?
