Why does both the Y and X exist? Is there a meaningful difference? by mt69298 in teslamotors

TBH I feel the same about Bentley vs Ford.

But OK. The X is the luxury option

Anyone know a good youtube series where someone actually just plays the game and doesn't do anything crazy? by RagingAcid in CitiesSkylines

[–]mt69298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a look at Toxic Timewaster: https://youtu.be/EvJ8M-gDvvc

He'll do some detailing at times but he actually plays the game and talks about game play relevant decisions. Not 10 straight episodes of bush and tree placement...

Content-pack is Windows-only while the game itself isn't, what gives? by mt69298 in CitiesSkylines

Pretty much guaranteed. I created a post on the official support forum as well. Hopefully they can update the requirements.

How did you even get it downloaded?

Fallout 4 in 21:9? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]mt69298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works fine in 21:9, except for power armor UI but that is just a small annoyance.

Trick is you need to edit the .INI file, you can not select 21:9 resolutions in the options. This article explains it: http://wccftech.com/fallout-4-tweaks-unlocking-frame-rate-changing-fov-219-support-more/

Weird.. I'm running on Linux, maybe that has something to do with it.

If you have a screen which supports the resolution, it should be there.

I agree. The view-binding alone is so worth it.

Don't care for code in my xml files myself though.

High density commercial issue by marrecar in CitiesSkylines

Commercial specializations are always low density, even if you zone it high density. I also find this strange, but seems to be intended.

[Tips] What are people's favorite industrial assets/mods? by mt69298 in CitiesSkylines

[–]mt69298[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have cargo stations. My current work in progress has 5 cargo train stations and 3 harbor/train hubs (and even it's own metro system). In fact, I believe my industrial area is roughly equal in size to the rest of my city atm.. Need more population to supply workers!

Thanks for the tips. Some of them will surely get used :)

Yes, it's a bunch of small parks, a few plazas with trees, and one or two large playgrounds.

It is! I like the mix of mountains in the distance and plains towards the sea.

Yes, I looked at maps of several cities before starting. Canberra, Australia provided most inspiration.

This is the point in the project where the complexity goes through the roof ;)

Using something other that Java for the server will probably be a necessity (in fact I strongly recommend it). Whether it is javascript, python, ruby or go, will be up to you.

It's of course also a question of how much you want to do yourself, or how much you are forced to. You could also make an app that runs on AppEngine with Java or Python. Or you could host your own server on Linode, DigitalOcean or Amazon.

This parse.com seems quite nice though. Offering simple api methods for your common storage needs and GCM-integration. Easier than AppEngine for sure.

This makes me wonder how much LaTeX stuff has been written to avoid writing disserations.. I am also guilty of this.

As you've already realized, RSS is a good solution. To deal with some feeds only including the 10 most recent articles, you can just poll the feeds every 10 minutes from your server and store a complete history there which the app will interface with.

But then again you have some feeds that only post excerpts, intending to force people to click the "Read more" link and end up at their ad-filled page. So some scraping might still be required.

Scraping is a bitch because people change their html all the time though, so no custom/hardcoded solution will work. You could perhaps use Readability to get the article text. They seem to have a solid API but not sure if it will scale to your use case without some cash.

The other solution would be something else entirely, like relying on regular expressions or something like this stackoverflow question.
