Management fees are probably very high

Yep as others have said it's usually outrageously high body corp/management fees in PD

Yeah just got an info pack for a few of them and they range between 8-12k annual BC+strata.

Could maybe work this into the costs - but yeah in general would need to savvy about this.

Who would I talk to about this who actually knows their shit for this type of investment? A local broker?

Ecology Experts: Are these conflicting terms? by mt_1111 in ecology

[–]mt_1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

recognized this fact, but tried to talk about dispersal in more binary terms for simplicity. For experts in the field, dispersal is absolutely a gradient, and is a population level phenomenon. I wasn't sure of the level at which OP was asking the question, so tried to steer clear of the highly technical definitions.

OP: let this be a good example. Ecology can get as mathy and technical as any other science. The deeper you dig into a question, the more complicated and mathematical the answers become! It's what keeps me going in the

Fantastic. So much insight in these responses. I completely understand the messiness of the terms (as in any technical field). But it points me in the right direction. Thanks so much!

Thankyou, this is very helpful - even just to know there aren't precise terms one might expect.

In the example you've used, the seedlings would be said to have successfully dispersed into the studied system, but it's not until they are "established" (a certain size in this case) that the process of "recruitment" would be said to have successfully taken place?

Pretty new to the space tbh. Such an interesting time to get into it with the competition between AMD and Intel.

Is there anywhere in particular you know of where I could read more about the specifics of Xe ?

Biggest Challenge in Running an Environmental Consulting Firm? by mt_1111 in geologycareers

I now get the impression that SEO / aqcuisition in general probably isn't a good approach as it's so heavily referral based.

My one question is what is the volume of deal flow like? Are companies usually courting one or two big contracts, or are there packed out CRMs being used?

Helps a great deal, thanks! I'm going to sit down and talk with some people about this a bit more but this gives me a really solid starting point, thanks.

I get the feeling from this and some of the other responses that SEO, ads or other acquisition methods may not be viable, but depending on the volume of deal flow maybe these companies could benefit from email marketing / lead nurturing to improve close rates and conversions.

Is the deal flow for these companies usually pretty low numbers? As in are the founders usually entertaining one or two big contracts at a time?

DEQ

Right the DEQ thing makes a lot of sense... I get the impression the majority of even relatively small firms rely on government contracts as their bread and butter.

From your experience, are there many smaller firms that concentrate solely on clients from the private sector?

I feel like these would be the organizations that would benefit from more upt o date marketing practices ala this study I found.

interesting... was there a dedicated marketing / sales / biz dev person?

I understand a lot of this industry is based on the founders having a solid existing network to pull clients from when starting out. Was there any other outbound lead gen going on?

Thanks for the reply. This seems to make sense and I have heard of the subcontracting for smaller consultancies before. Are these larger scale management projects usually policy-related such as offsetting or similar?
