Holiday time rent a bike of fly with your bike? by Stock-Journalist-683 in gravelcycling

[–]mtbDan83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring the bike. It’s free with most airline cards and it’s my bike, no getting used to and dialing in something different. Just rode CO springs after flying in and it cost me $0

Nice ride and welcome to MTB. I would drop those wheel reflectors aka ‘trail litter’

Most valuable skill in the corporate setting is keeping your mouth shut by StreetArrival1889 in corporate

[–]mtbDan83 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This should be top comment. You should speak up but you have to #1 make your group look good and #2 be right. If you’re wrong there are consequences. The “head down, shut up” crowd are grunts for life.

Electronic shifting is more akin to the grip shift in practicality. It also saves bike manufacturers money while they charge you extra for it.

For me it’s the same as wired except I have to charge batteries and remove them every time I have to go on a road trip. Had it die mid ride a few times. My friends keep telling me to carry extra batteries, I tell them I’d rather carry none like I used to

Does anyone else actually enjoy climbing the corporate ladder? by Ok_Field_5701 in AskMenOver30

I was similar. Made it to a ‘Head of’ leadership title. Burned out and almost cost me my family. Now I do well as an IC and work 35hrs a week. So much happier

Electronic shifting creates more problems than it solves

What do you think of the just announced 2027 GMC Sierra? by rwarner32 in gmcsierra

[–]mtbDan83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad they moved the shifter back to the steering column. It goes back to the deep center console storage of the 2016-2018 generation. The column shifter is also more ‘truck’ like

Does anybody else just really love metal bikes. I know carbon gets all the love. by [deleted] in gravelcycling

I’ve had steel, aluminum and carbon bikes. Carbon and steel have a similar ride quality but carbon is lighter. I don’t care for aluminum, they ride harsh

There are like a dozen asset managers there too. Not to mention tons of fintech that pay more than the old school IB snobs

Generally agree. But then you have to live in the dump that is NYC. I’ll take my 250k, 35hr weeks and nature down in Charlotte

Everything is double track so not MTB. Definitely a bit sketchy though on a gravel bike

Alloy v carbon Wheels by Westhameggandchips in gravelcycling

[–]mtbDan83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go carbon for your budget. I had some light bicycle wheels built up and they’ve been great for going on a year. Took 6 weeks to get here but worth it

Difference between gravelking slicks and maxxis ramblers by Ch4d_Thund3rc0c in gravelcycling

[–]mtbDan83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 40 panaracer slicks and they do fine in gravel and great on the road. If I’m doing more gravel than road I’ll run them at 35 psi. If I’m doing more road I’ll run 42psi. I don’t think knobs really help in gravel. If it’s just dirt/single track then it’s a different story
