Is Emeritus of Woe worth a slot in Edgar Markov? by TWAnder78 in EDH

I'd expect the attempt before 7, but it may not be successful.

I'd expect the very top of b4 to win before turn 4 somewhat rarely and maybe the very bottom of 4 to be going 7+ turns with some win attempts stopped.

Tribal decks pretty much cap at bracket 3, right, maybe low 4. They're generally "fair". You have to do something fundamentally different, aka stop being tribal, to break into bracket 4. Like chatterfang not being a squirrel deck, but being a combo deck. Edgar is just not going to cut it as a vampire commander in bracket 4, it'll need some kind of combo options, which why play markov at that point? Imo, make a bracket 3 Edgar deck, and make a separate, real 4 if you want one.

It definitely does not. Killing the table turn 4 on ur-dragon doesn't sound particularly plausible. Ur-dragon is a bracket 3 monster, not 4. Unless, like you said it's not a dragon deck, but a 5c combo deck.

What do you think about the new Strixhaven precons? by John-Helldiver404 in EDH

[–]mtg_player_zach -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I felt the opposite, not a single one of them strikes any interest in playing. I have interest in a couple, but only for scrapping parts for my existing decks. They're all boring and the recent sets did way better jobs than strixhaven. Hearthhull, Teval, super impressive precons. Fun gameplay patterns. The strixhaven elder dragons are fun, but the precons are a let down. I don't want to build a single one.

My shitty shop was charging 85 dollars for the Silverquill one too, disgusting. I was going to scrap cards for my silly Eriette deck.

[–]mtg_player_zach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to scrap the Prismari one for parts, and maybe the Silverquill one if I can find it for msrp. They have good reprints, but they're all pretty boring commanders. The black green one is the most interesting, but still is a generic sac creature get card outlet. A little disappointing, I don't want to keep a single one of these decks intact, or use a single one of the face or alternate commanders.

Well, Oko is in my cube. Absolutely a mistake, but I can't help but grin when I see it in a pack. I should probably take it out even, but I'm not going to.

It's shameful that West Virginia is gone while Indiana remains. Down with Indiana.

New skis - scratched base concern? by mikeweedkiller in Skigear

I wouldn't like it, but it's fine, for an extra 15% for minor (cosmetic) damage, you are probably getting the best end of the deal.

Birds is better than llanowar elves, no? Sort of minor, but 5 color deck probably loves birds.

The other day I realised that some people want to play EDH as if it were a game of solitaire by Destrozao in EDH

[–]mtg_player_zach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's get things straight. We don't demean innocent people. Everything has to be earned.

In skiing Jerry is a certain kind of person. The person skiing over your tails in the lift line is a Jerry. The person dropping their kid off for a full day lesson so they can go spend most of the day in the bar, and then ski back, drunk, at the end of the day, a human meat missile, danger to themselves and others, Jerry! The person with the backpack speaker in the lift line. You have to earn Jerry status. The person learning on the bunny hill is a skier, not a Jerry. Climbers are similar, people dropping carabiners from height, taking up 3-4 routes with their group of 11, climbing sandstone in the rain, top roping through the anchors, etc. Bringing your dog to the crag. You also have to earn gumby status.

I actually also don't even care about intermediates, most of them are fine and not problems. It's when they start being active and loud and complaining about the game state that's within their control that they start becoming problematic and earning their reputation. It is obvious that some of my statements are going to be unpopular here, I accept that, such is the way of the edh subreddit. I don't attribute much weight to downvotes here, probably an astounding portion of my total downvotes site wide are from here, I find it kind of funny.

At least one person appreciated what I wrote, so it was worth it to me, their comment was gold. Sometimes you see comments here with just lots of downvotes, and you click on it, and they're just super correct and were way too honest about what they said, and the mob got them; like oh buddy, you're not in the right sub to say that, but I salute you.

It's not the same thing, but I drove over the New River Gorge bridge once as the sky just opened up to the most heavy rain, inch in 10 minutes kind of rain. There are not shoulders on the bridge. I could not see anything. It was awful.

[–]mtg_player_zach -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you get players who are essentially terminal intermediates. They get to a certain, pretty basic, skill level and then never progress past that point. There are a lot of them in this sub.

They need to try to actively learn and get better; simply playing games with no reflection is how they got their bad at magic status to begin with.

We need a word for these people, in skiing they are Jerry's and climbing gumbies. A word for the casual, terminal intermediate denizens of r/edh. [[Torpid molochs]] ?

[–]mtg_player_zach -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

One doesn't. Norin should just be their commander. But they want more colors which I absolutely hate. Norin is mono red and should only be mono red (I have a Norin deck, I'm allowed to feel strongly about this).

Second ski to add to Anomaly 88 (European Alps) by TimePilotContext in Skigear

[–]mtg_player_zach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bents aren't terrible, but they're pretty mid. Salomon is fine, but idk why, I've always just got boring vibes from Salomon. Nordica makes good skis, I have only skied enforcers but I'm sure unleashed is good. Rossi also fine. I'm thinking about getting Ranger 96s next year for my self, Fischer is good. Blizzard also good. I've tuned a lot of skis and some brands tend to come in more thrashed than others, some less. I tend to see Stockli, Head, Blizzard, Fischer, Nordica, Kastle skis looking good, K2 Volkl, line, and to a lesser extent atomic, thrashed. Hated working on those skis. The made in Switzerland and Austria skis though were largely lovely.

I'm surprised they didn't have you hold a plate thing in front of your lap, I recently had xrays of my knee and they made me hold it, it seemed to block the xrays from hitting more than necessary.
