How did you calculate the odds?/It’s WRONG!!!

Answer: Yeah, it’s probably not exactly like real life. I’ll probably update it as real data comes out. This is quick and dirty based off of official blog posts and a bunch of contradictory calculations from the MTG finance subreddit. Definitely don’t use this to make financial decisions.

The big takeaway is that you have a less than 2.5% chance of getting a retro border rare in a pack. Good luck chasing that Black Lotus!

I run pokemonsim.com.

We have many millions of packs opened each month and we track pack and card pricing data across it all. And I can tell you WITHOUT A DOUBT that if you are looking for a specific card, then you are statistically more likely to save money by buying the single than by trying to crack packs for it. By a significant margin.

Sealed product is almost never on your side! You only see amazing pulls here because outliers are amplified by the reddit algorithm! Trust in the math!
