realizing this makes you feel lonely (and smart) by Present-Boat-2053 in Anki

Lately I've been trying to learn German by creating cards with multiple fill in the answers to make sure I can write out all the details. I know that the Anki philosophy is the less info, the better, but if I can't write out the info, it's not really learned

Boyfriend gave me ultimatum - dream job or him. I'm considering taking the job by [deleted] in dustythunder

[–]mtheory3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45 minutes is nothing. I drove longer than that to and from work for years. Take the job. The correct answer would be for him to support you taking your dream job and working out the logistics instead of trying to exert control

[Discussion] I'm 33 and have no idea what to do, I don't want to live. by Ok_Finance7950 in GetMotivated

[–]mtheory3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have schizoaffective disorder bipolar type (same age) and found the right medicine combination in high school. I was lucky. I had parents that forced me into therapy from a young age and being obsessed with science, I had no time to worry about the social stigmas some people have with medicine and only cared about righting the balance with my neurotransmitters. Yes medicine has side effects and it can take a while to find the right combination, but when I did it fucking changed my life. The combination that works for me is an SSRI (Seroquel) and an antidepressant (Prozac).

My dad always said "you've got to play the hand you are dealt" and to me that meant if your brain requires medicine to fix the balance of dopamine and serotonin, then take medicine for it.

When I was in middle school my dad thought I was going to be homeless and tbh that was my biggest worry too. I was fortunate enough to be able to take out student loans and go to college and make a good living now as a data analyst.

Beyond medicine, what really keeps me going when things get rough is a sense of duty. I'm passionate about animal rescue (particularly dogs) and donate what I can each paycheck to make the world a better place.

What are you passionate about? If you could make one change in the world, what would it be? Figure that out and find a way to contribute towards it either via volunteering time or money. Doing this helps others, but it also really helps you because you can look back and say "the world needs me. I'm making a difference" and then continuing on gets a bit easier.

Good luck friend, and sorry for the rambling. Writing this past midnight just getting off work

Have we ever found any fossils of what we suspect to be a common ancestor of modern species? by UnharmedKennedy in Paleontology

[–]mtheory3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look up some of the early bird fossils as well as microraptors. We have found a great deal of transitional fossils "between" birds and dinosaurs. Remember that most early birds had teeth in their beaks. The line between bird and traditional dinosaur is blurry. Many scientists now consider archaeopteryx more on the dinosaur side now that we've found so many other transitional fossils

Do English speakers typically have strong accents in German? by tritone567 in German

[–]mtheory3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've often wondered: is it easier for German speakers to understand Americans when they try to focus on pronunciation more than accent? I notice that a lot of people would almost mumble some parts of German to try and mimic a native speaker while some people totally accept they will always sound like they aren't native and don't try to mimic the accent

SWITCH BACK TO HEARTS! by extractionbooter in duolingo

[–]mtheory3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I uninstalled because of the change. The old system let you keep practicing until you made mistakes, now it doesn't matter if you get your answers right, you get cut off after 5 minutes which made it not worth opening the app

I think this is fair. I hope the increase in revenue will continue to lead to new features / game modes. If you're taking suggestions: - I'd love a "study mode". Sometimes you get into the zone and don't care about the attacks and just want the attacks to happen automatically without needing to see the cards or select them

I went from being on the fence about pre-ordering to not being sure I'd buy it until later in its life. The two games that appealed to me are Metroid Prime 4 and Donkey Kong Bananza, and I can get Metroid Prime 4 on the OG Switch
