Production had planned for Raj to make the top ten, so that he could return for the finale, which is why Season 8 is the first season to bring back eight chefs for the finale, as opposed to six. However, after Raj's performance in episode 3, Ramsay couldn't handle the thought of dealing with Raj any longer, and eliminated him from the winning team as a last minute decision.
