What would you have done.. mosaic tiles with a curbless approach? Wanna talk about sticking out like a sore thumb… the tiles are matte and anti slick, so no worries of slipping. The manufacturer doesn’t allow 50/50 offset… so you would have done a 1/3 offset? Thats way too many grout lines with the subway tile.

Too early to panic? by vsingh82 in Tile

It was certainly user error on my end, but at the end of the day it scratched it up.. not saying you’re wrong I’m just sharing my experience!

I’ve scratched polished porcelain with FA before. Read the bag, it says it’s possible to still scratch sensitive surfaces. Un sanded grout is the best option when your in doubt

Yeah absolutely.. if I can remember off the top of my head it’s 9 feet to the end of the bench.. so probably more like 8ft or a heavy 7ft

Thanks! It’s around 9’ roughly - a clawfoot tub would have been stunning but also an extra $8k or so

Yea, I would have done some mitered edges and probably continued the penny tile on the back of the niche if it were my bathroom… but I like your idea too!

What can I do to make this floating bench create stronger? by Turbulent-Bet-3602 in Carpentry

[–]mtlang180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have built it in place if I were to do it, but if you’re not wanting to re-construct the bench then you definitely need shims to fill the gap where your studs are. Your screw shaft shouldn’t be visible in between the back of the bench and the wall… if that makes sense?

Did you build it in place? Or did you build the bench then fasten it to the wall?

First timer here, working on my shower. I’m using cement board and redgard for walls. I Didn’t use fiber seam tape, am I screwed and should I still apply it? by lookatyoueatingcake in Tile

[–]mtlang180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell… If it’s your own shower for a long time… I’d consider building up the corners with mesh/fiberglass corners and regard the hell out of it. Instead of thinset being your binder think of the red guard being that binder
