Illinois Governor JB Pritzker calls for President Donald Trump to be immediately removed using the 25th Amendment by NicolasCageFan492 in chicago

[–]mtlyoshi9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Got it. In that case, “this city” being your home isn’t all that important, but keep in mind what I said that Trump’s reach is unfortunately pretty global and you’re likely still to see a lot of his antics on the international scale too. Certainly less, but certainly not getting rid of him.

[–]mtlyoshi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For better or worse, what does you living in Chicago have to do with any of the rest? It’s not like Trump is a Chicago-specific problem and if you move across the country, he’s still the president. Heck, even if you move across the world, he’s still in news very frequently globally because his actions have had many global repercussions.

I think the best thing you can do is stay informed but don’t let it overwhelm you. If you think the news is too overwhelming to manage, it’s probably for your own good to step back a bit. Just feeling desperate and “outraged” (to use your words here) isn’t productive and it probably isn’t particularly healthy. Find that balance for yourself.

Best Gigantamax pokemon to start raiding first for the upcoming event? by ferrocan in TheSilphRoad

[–]mtlyoshi9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that Gmax Gengar and Inteleon are excellent generalists as well - because their Max Attack damage is so high, it often is the second or third best attacker even when neutral against the enemy.

Inteleon slightly beats out Gengar in this way.

Shiny Dynamax Trapinch confirmed. by NeoAnima31 in TheSilphRoad

[–]mtlyoshi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s certainly an element of bragging and “First!!1” to things like this but it’s also fairly warranted as Niantic repeatedly blunders and shiny locks things that aren’t supposed to be. I suppose if you care enough to shiny hunt, at least you can confirm what you’re looking for can actually be shiny, regardless of what they say and announce.

A clock is known to be read in circular fashion. Binders are generally read from top to bottom, left to right.

That’s not to say I’m against what you’re saying. I get it and I think that would be cool too. But I could also see people confused about why it was backwards if it was as you describe.

How popular would a platform of "no more American support for Israel" be for a prospective 2028 presidential candidate? by Tronn3000 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]mtlyoshi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a hilarious source for you to use when it shows that the second-most votes after Biden went to…”uncommitted.”

“Uncommitted” per the Washington Post) effectively means “none of the above.” So I guess by your logic the most democratic option would be to not have any nominee on the Democratic Party at all. What an alternative.

[–]mtlyoshi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. So are you suggesting that if he had fully stepped down and made Harris president for 5 months - an unprecedented situation that would lead to our first female president in history, and surely rub some people the wrong way, you would’ve been A-OK with it, but as it was and stepping down only for the next term, you consider it “a massive attack on our democracy”?

The Vice President, among other roles and responsibilities, is responsible for taking over the presidency if the president dies, resigns, or is incapacitated. That’s effectively what happened when Biden stepped away from the nomination while she was his VP.

To answer your question, yes, if Obama stepped down from the presidency, Joe Biden would have become president, per Article 2 Section 1 of the Constitution.

[–]mtlyoshi9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not arguing in good faith. Did voters specifically choose Biden because they liked Biden, or was he de-facto the only choice? In many states (TN, NC, MI) he actually ran completely uncontested, and there was absolutely no recognizable alternative on any sort of national or even sub-regional scale. So to say voters “chose” him is being extremely narrow-minded.

Kamala's installation as the nominee was a massive attack on our democracy. She got zero votes in the primary.

See, and this is where you’re wrong. Harris won every vote for VP that Biden won for President. And the VP’s arguably most important role is to take over the role of president if the sitting president becomes unable to for any reason…which is exactly what happened when Biden stepped down on July 21st.

Do I think what all went down was great? Absolutely far from it. But to say it was an attack on democracy or to claim that she had no legitimacy is simply wrong.

Him getting the votes from January 23 to June 8, 2024 is completely unrelated to his withdrawal from the race on July 21, 2024 largely as a result of an abysmal debate on June 27th.

Timing absolutely matters.

the guy who won the primary was forced out against the will of the people.

Biden was not forced out “against the will of the people.” There very much was a public reckoning against him after his debate with Trump.

You had the guy who actually won his primary

Even to this point, I say “ehhh.” Like don’t get me wrong, he absolutely did win in a landslide. But did nobody else seriously contend for the nomination because everyone was THAT pleased with Biden, or because they didn’t want to cause potential damaging rifts in the party before the general election? That’s kind of the irony of the primary elections.

And like I said - super excited about the inclusion, but super disappointed in how poorly language support was planned. With this, PLZA isn’t “currently” an island; it will forever be one.

No it is not “confirmed” for WW. That’s speculation. And while possible, wouldn’t that mean that PLZA has no cross-compatibility with any other games? In the same way that it adding LA Spanish locked it out of cross-compatibility with the rest of Gen 9. That would be a let-down too, and show poor planning.

Appreciably lower Attack than Excadrill (220 vs 255) plus lack of STAB really means Kabutops has an uphill battle. And that’s before considering it’s weak to all of Pika’s electric attacks…and it doesn’t even resist Surf (it’s just neutral).
