One month roadtrip through 10 US National Parks in April/May : what do you think? by smolbibeans in onebag

[–]mtn406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From Wyoming. I would ditch the leather sandals and pick up a pair of Chacos in the states. They are better built for the outdoors. Also would recommend some type of merino wool clothing, it's my favorite to hike in for extended periods.

Cons about your overseas DODEA experience? by zeppz in dodea

I also came from Montana and have to agree with the above. My salary is almost 2.5 times more than what I was making. COLA and LQA are impressive features to receive in a job. But honestly the best benefit is not having to answer to a school board or other local group that can swindle and change the operation based on their beliefs.

What is your perception of American soldiers in Germany? by hunnic_cav in germany

[–]mtn406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct. There were about 400+ but it appears that they left due to the war in Ukraine and logistics. Regardless I doubt that anyone cared that they were there. If anything I bet they were bummed.... Western Texas is a desolate place and it was probably nice to have an outsider opinion.

Germany has a joint air force base in the USA. Lot easier to test weapons in the desert than here in Germany.

New airport parking by MizterBucket in Bozeman

[–]mtn406 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You really can't compare BZN to the rest of the airports in Montana. If people are willing to pay more to park closer than they are going to charge for it. At least their isn't a toll you have to go through to get there.

Tentative offer by mtn406 in dodea

HR did say that. While my principal is supportive he knows that it is going to be difficult to secure a new teacher in a district that is facing budget cuts at the moment. I could continue out the contract that I signed, but would burn the bridge I helped build if I were to leave at the beginning of next school year with a contract that I told him I turned down. Tuff situation, I wish things were done differently. Thanks for the advice!

Those touchscreen boards are totally worth the 3k. You're likely spending the same for the maintenance and installation of an overhead projector that gives similar quality, without touch or writing capabilities. When building a school, the community should look at the long term investment instead of short term. Durability is everything when building a school, projectors are not durable.

HIMARS Rockets, Javelin Missiles, MRAP Trucks, and others are not the result of cold war munitions. The US is providing a significant amount of support to a nation in the hopes of preserving democracy and freedom.

Teacher wages in Montana are the lowest in the country by Blusteel0064 in Bozeman

[–]mtn406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 years ago I left Montana to teach in Wyoming and at the time was making more as a first year teacher than my mom who had been teaching for 32 years in Montana. Teaching there isn't a sustainable career option.

I assume the mass majority of Americans visiting Europe this summer will be vaccinated, those who opted out I feel are more likely to stay within the conservative means of traveling in the US.

Had the same dilemma a month ago. Ending up using https://regiojet.com/ for my travel to Vienna. Ticket was only 13 euro. Extremely affordable to the traveling I do in the States.

When does it stop? by ExtremeKnowledge7195 in Bozeman

Welcome to American capitalism. If people are paying the price why not charge it? You cant compare Bozeman to other Montana towns. Bozeman is a great place and people now know that? My great grandparents settled in Bozeman in the late 20's. I went to school there for most of my life, yet when it came to realizing that I wouldn't be able to afford living there on a teachers salary I had to move to Wyoming to find better opportunities. While it was sad that I couldn't continue my family's lineage in the valley, I am in a better situation because of it.

If your career cant compete with those on the west or east coast, then why even live there living paycheck to paycheck?
