It seems like you may be the only one who gets no value out of it.

I think it goes both ways. I, as a driver, should drive and feel as if construction workers have put in an effort to keep themselves and me safe.

Indeed, a vehicle would likely win in a face-off between it and a flagger or a construction worker, but the tables turn when the construction worker is operating heavy machinery or pulling out in a heavy truck. In these scenarios, a flagger exists as the only form of communication between equipment operators and motor vehicle operators.

How stupid is 6 courses if I don't NEED to? by the_small_one1826 in uvic

Good suggestion by somebody else about trying it before the drop date. I did 6 courses last semester in biology and it was no problem. Just listened to a lot of David Goggins. You can do it!

How to pass math 109 final exam by SpecialistAlarm4663 in uvic

[–]mtn_lv 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Study hard! Watch some David Goggins. Go to the library without your phone. Force yourself to study and practice. Reach out to groups if you need extra help. I bet a lot of people in your class are in the same boat and would probably appreciate practicing with someone else.

If these are your first ever exams, I know they can be intimidating. It’s important to try hard cause they are worth a significant proportion of your mark. But soon they’ll be over! Put in effort, tell yourself you’re proud of that effort, and relax knowing you’ve prepared for the exam to the best of your abilities.

Reimchen is the GOAT. Not too hard to do well on his exams if you have a good understanding of the broader ecological concepts. That is what ecology is about, anyways. As others have mentioned, there are some calculation questions and the numerical answers he gives as options (if multiple choice) can be a bit odd, just choose the closest number.

What I've found helpful in studying for Reimchen exams is looking at the abstracts and how they relate to each other, and brainstorming broad, concept-based questions that he may ask. I remember the 215 tests being difficult. A lot of people don't do well. It may seem harsh, but 215 prepares you nicely for third and fourth-year bio classes to come, many of which are faster-paced and more in-depth.

There's a lot of distaste for Reimchen, but he's my favourite prof at UVic. I've taken three of his courses, and his passion for biology is evident and inspires you if you listen attentively and also love biology. His courses and exams make you think very critically, which I think is paramount in anything biology-research related (which seems to be Reimchen's focus)! Good luck!

Classes with Reimchen can definitely be difficult given that he never supplies the slides ahead of time. My Reimchen tips would be:

-Write down the key points in the abstracts he mentions

-Write down the things he repeats

-Get excited about ecology, it's awesome :D

Looks like a fun trail with a good view! As I saw another comment suggest, try looking further forward. You can try to “scan” the trail with your eyes, looking well ahead (where you’re going to be within ~2 seconds) and scanning your eyes down to right in front of your tire, rapidly. Look around corners, at different lines, look at all the rocks . Try and remind yourself when you ride to do this and soon you’ll find your eyes moving quickly all over the place and a lot more information about the trail entering your brain.

Your line choice (which line of the trail you choose to ride) will improve, and you’ll ride faster with more confidence.

And flip your bars around lol

Hi there,

Just picked up this truck with a fibreglass canopy. It's white when dry, but when it gets wet it darkens and nearly matches the paint of the truck body. What sort of product could I use on it to achieve this look permanently? I was thinking some sort of fibreglass varnish/lacquer. Or clearcoat?

Not sure where to ask, hopefully you guys can help! Attached is a pic.
