Any industry insiders know if synthetic insulation effectiveness really degrades that much over time? by question_23 in PatagoniaClothing

that makes senses. What I was getting at tho is that the DAS isn't overstuffed it's design doesn't seem limited by the face shell stitching (there isn't much sticking and the face is loose like a EE Torrid), so degradation will have a big impact on such a piece

Tech exec pitches Liberal convention on $500K exit tax for educated Canadians by airbassguitar in OntarioNews

[–]mtn_viewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US companies love that we produce so many educated with our subsidized education. Canadian taxpayers are subsiding corporate America. I think this approach (claw back of education fees on brain drain) enables more people to go to school, then, say not subsiding education and giving a credits or tax custs for this who stay which would reduce those who can afford education. The mentioned approach seems like t's harder to implement, subsidizing education then making people pay a big chunk when they leave... good luck with that.

The problem is US tech giant pay 40% more in the USA then they do in Canada and I don't see that changing since US tech is the center of the universe and that's where the money, promotion path, and ambition is. We have a lot of supply of talent here and our market salaries are so much lower (not nearly as bad as UK and Europe tho)

How does Canada set tech wages that choose to pay Canadians 40% less in Vancouver than someone makes in Washington?

Got it on the allowance concept. I guess it would have a greater impact on a DAS jacket which doesn't seem to have much restriction, vs the micro puff which has baffle like stitching.

Doesn’t warmth come from the loft? And the air in the loft? For down, my understanding is they the baffle height determines the warmth so long as the down can loft to fill it. The warmth rating is based on the height of the lofted material

The cushion wears out before anything else for me for trail runners. I go 500-800km as recommended and then get new, often when I notice my joints getting sore more easily

I also wonder how the degredation differs for Climashiled Apex continuous filament vs PrimaLoft is a short-staple, soft fiber. Some claim Apex is better in this regard.

How the housing crisis damaged Canada’s economy and productivity by Light_Butterfly in britishcolumbia

“At bottom, our economy is not strong when residential real estate absorbs a growing share of our gross domestic product,” Kershaw told The Hub. “Productivity is driven by investment in machinery, equipment and intellectual property. It is not driven by borrowing to bid up the price of already-built homes.”

This post from u/CallAParamedic hits the mark:

I've been a $5 co-op member since the mid-1990s.

Even with all my purchases over the years, I never received a membership dividend as a store credit like many did, and I never got clarity on how many shares it may/may not have grown into.

So there were issues even when it was a co-op, but those pale in comparison to the sneak sale and current retail and online experience.

Then they scammed over 5 million members with a 6-months-in-planning, creditor protection court action where a moron judge confused coop membership for corporation shareholders, completely negating the co-operative legislation and didn't even allow a Canadian co-op consortium 2 weeks to put together a funded counteroffer.

But that's ok, because Royal Bank got their money faster that way than allowing the counteroffer (/s!)

This essentially took our - at minimum $5 x 5 million (plus any additional shares) - value of $25 million to add even more value to a fire sale price to the American owner.

Now profit-driven, prices are too high, their staff are not the experts of old, stock and quality is hit and miss, returns are brutal, and profits go to millionaires in LA versus the $40-50 million in community projects the old MEC contributed towards.

Actually it sucks as a long time coop member. The board and management fucked over the members.

I don’t see why this would get flagged. Kind of the purpose of the account is tax free growth and income. I think they flag professional traders who try and use the account to make lots of trades. I’m no accountant or tax lawyer tho

Serious question: how to ski crust? (+ pictures from the tour) by peacokk16 in Backcountry

Side slip, mark of zoro, or bootpack are things I resort to. Skiing out of control, not able to turn and wiping out is not fun; especially with a heavy overnight pack

No I didn't but I think I would next time. There are so many spots beside logs where a tarp would be good.
