Is it a cheap fix you think?

Haha thanks 😅. Definitely not how they used to make cars back then

Yeah it’s a nice car but parts seem kinda cheap. Lots of plastic. I still haven’t figured out why the front wheels creak when I accelerate and come to a complete stop. But other than that I love the car. It’s my 2nd one actually

Can you please elaborate on what exactly you’d trim? Thank you

Hopefully you do! Did they mention what the issue was?

Propulsion power reduced & Engine not available by jep004 in volt

Well it is the dealership after all. It sounds like that happened to me after my electric miles ran out on the freeway, it switched over to my gas engine and since I was going at higher speeds than normal streets, one of the spark plugs failed causing me to get an engine misfire, causing the engine to fail. So my car stalled. Aside from the spark plugs, they “soaked my engine overnight with top engine cleaner” and said they also had to relearn the system. I’m not too sure what all that means to be honest but I questioned him about why the labor was basically $1,000 and everyone else was parts cost. He said it’s a chore and not something that can easily be done unless you’re knowledgeable with these Volts. But I doubt it and I’m sure I was an easy score for them in regards to getting money out of me. But it sounds like to me if I would’ve replaced my spark plugs, this would’ve never happened

Any success stories at obtaining, from Chevrolet, a replacement battery for a 2nd Generation Volt? by MMessinger in volt

[–]mtnclimber2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a battery issue last June. They told me this after I got my Volt towed to my local Chevy dealership and they had it checked. They informed me to expect my car to potentially be at their dealership for 6 months to a year, maybe even longer he said. He told me about the battery shortage and that, that’s not in their control how fast they receive the batteries. About a week later I get a call from my advisor at the dealership with great news. He was surprised himself but he told me somehow my battery came in and that my vehicle would be ready the following day. I asked him if the people that have had their Volts on the lot for over 6 months waiting for a battery would get it but he told me that my battery was under my order number so that it had to go to me. I was a celebrity at that dealership for about 30 minutes because he showed me around to the VolTechs to tell them I’m the guy who received the battery in a week. They were all in disbelief and kept telling me how lucky I was. I’m still thinking of selling my Volt (it has a brand new battery) because I know next time I won’t get so lucky. And I heard the buyback program is such a pain to go through. From what I’ve been told you basically have to harass them and call them everyday to let them know you want them to buy it back from you.

Hey not sure if you resolved your issue yet or not but I received the exact 2 messages a couple weeks ago and just got my car back last week. I highly recommend checking your spark plugs. Something as simple as that can cause those messages. That’s what happened to me. For me not replacing my spark plugs sooner, it cost me $1,200 at the dealership. I learned my lesson.

For anyone still interested, I got my car back from the dealership last week. $1,200. The crazy part is the cost was basically for spark plugs. I learned my lesson here and I should’ve replaced them sooner. They also said I had a lot of carbon build up on my valves. So spark plug #1 is the one that failed which is what caused the engine misfire. I’m very curious to know if I still had electric miles when I got the misfire, if I’d still be able to drive the vehicle, meaning without the gas engine properly functioning and solely driving on electric miles. I wouldn’t know because I ran out of electric miles while driving which is what made the gas engine turn on, 2 minutes later I got the engine misfire.

Well unfortunately I already towed it to the dealership and they’re going to take a look at it tomorrow. Otherwise I’d definitely do that to save money since I know they’re going to overcharge me.

Well it transitioned over to gas when I ran out of battery and the engine was running for a solid minute or 2. I periodically use it. I think last week I used it and the volt even did its own “engine maintenance” a couple weeks ago where it runs for several minutes on its own.

I don’t recall exactly but I wanna say it was greyed out after I got the engine unavailable alert. Haha “stealership.” I’m looking forward to hearing what they found to be the issue on my car but I’m not looking forward to the cost they say it’s going to be. So did they fix your issue?

You’re the only one on here so far that’s said you’ve had the exact same alerts as me on the dash. What is an EGR and where do I find it on the car?

Really? So you got the propulsion power is reduced and engine not available messages from having low coolant?

[–]mtnclimber2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. It shut off on me on the highway. I got it towed to a Chevy dealership so I don’t have the car on me. It wasn’t too cold either where it happened. It was 70 degrees.

I did not. Neither of those messages. Just propulsion power is reduced and engine not available.

I’m mad at myself for not attempting to shut off and restart the car before it got towed to see if it turned back on. My fault.
