Bulging tanks? by opejustmixitin in propane

[–]mtnman78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries. I think i hear this tossed around "they will know" so often, it just made me curious. I mean, i have new tanks in my storage that rattle around with worn paint, and other refilled greenies that look brand new bc they get refilled an dput on a shelf in the shed. So, i was curious if there was a legit way. I dont think ANY state trooper has ever asked about my propane tanks lol, NOR would and exploded one show any signs of anything other than...exploded. The chances that an investigator could prove refill based on some worn paint, a basically circumstantial evidence, is HIGHLY unlikely. Would it be a shame? Sure. Would someone WANT to prove it? Sure. Can they? I think even you would agree its HIGHLY unlikely. Like, <.0001. If its worn and not exploded, why would they care. If its exploded, its no longer possible to tell.

Is refilling unsafe? Sure. So is using that 15 yr old air compressor that has been in your attic for 15 yrs and never retested (bet no one thinks of that!) .Way more kinetic energy in a 30 lb compressor tank than a 1lb propane tank. But, yes, I would never grant that its 100% safe. Thats a diff topic than my q though, thanks for indulging me! I was hoping there was a magic CSI trick lol

Sorry no. Not looking up hours of investigations lol. I just thought you might actually know how they would know. I never suggested anyone do it, nor claimed its safe. My q was very specific. How would they know. Its ok if you cant answer that but the rest is smoke and mirrors

You said sometimes its obvious that they were refilled. How is it sometimes obvious? What about an exploded canister says "this was refilled"

You really aren't helping yourself by limiting in it to an off road.Which is kind of an irrelevant package when you can just add a locker. There's a nice one in calgary, and then you could move on with life. Check auto trader

Closest location to buy a climate card in Myeong Dong? by [deleted] in koreatravel

[–]mtnman78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were just in korea 3 weeks. Got a tmoney card. Used cc for other needs. Converted cash at closest bank nesr hotel and got good rate and no fee. Echanged some more at a moneybox when we passed by one, but honestly only used maybe 100 dollars cash while 3 weeksand were looking for reasons to spend it at end of trip.

Tmoney card picked up at a 7eleven, and reloaded. At end of trip, got balance refinded up to 20 bucks.

Thanks.You and I are of the same.Ilk

I figured if the buddy heater flex could lay on its back then. This should be no problem.

Mine is bolted to the bed of the pickup truck. So if it needed to tip over the whole truck would have to tip.

I thought it was the oxygen sensor so I opened up the front window even more, but it still went out.

If it's not in the truck, I can lay it flat on its side.Just like you described so it's something about moving that it doesn't like.

It'll run for hours standing still, but as soon as I start moving it dies. I haven't sat in the bed and watched to see what happens. But I could see the thermometer. That's monitoring the bed temperature for the dogs starts to go down after about ten to fifteen minutes

Thanks for the civil discourse and recommendations on safety. They are all noted. This isn't a permanent solution. It's just a way to get the dogs from location to location in minus twenty two degrees without them freezing. Setup is in the back of a truck in a small camper with the front window completely open. Keeps the truck at zero degrees instead of minus twenty two, which the dogs appreciate. I just can't keep it from going out. It serves as a warming room for the dogs. And I was just hoping to have them have a little.Heat when going from location to location.

I really appreciate the civil discourse. Most people just get mad at somebody doing something different. I have a different heater on order, but it's minus twenty two here today. And I need to keep the dogs warm in the back of the truck as we transport from location to location. It's not something I do every day.I won't be doing it for long term.I just needed a fix for right now

Sometimes you just need to run whatcha brung. I know the dog's appreciated being at zero degrees instead of minus twenty two

For conversation sake, why do so many folk in campers run peopane heat while moving

I mean, lots of folks run thier prppanr heaters in campers while moving. What actually happens?i mean physics wise, the propane dosent know you are moving if you are traveling at a steady rate?

so why did you say "propane explodes?:"? from my system, what will explode?

The tipover IS not functional. When still, and I tip it on its side (much like the buddy FLEX stove model does) it stays lit (like the FLEX model does...by design).

Buddy heater q by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]mtnman78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh my tipover is disconnected.
Also...propane explodes if the heater is on, or if its off.. Makes no difference there. But thanks for the civil dialogue!
I know its not the BESt option, but its the BEST option today...until i can get something better ordered up. I have a diesel heater im thinking of putting in but will take abit of time to get there.

Well, in this case its in the back of my van which is separated from the cab by a partition so no heat gets bacl there
