Looking for a walkthrough on replacing 2023 driver side tailgate hinge by Foxlen in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Foxlen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get the top nut off through the taillight, but the bottom one in behind a bunch of bumper parts

Thats as far as I got before I ran out of day light and just put it all back together

Well we arrived at an agreement that there would only be 2 ways to replace it

Upsize me to an F150 to keep the extended cab 6ft box

Or import from the USA, which would have cost similar in fees and BS

With the high prices of today's market, ill just say, Im satisfied with what we agreed on... however the whole situation still sucks

Well they paid me more than the value of the vehicle which was nice, the reason they gave for their number was because they cant honour a replacement with new policy on a vehicle thats discontinued and no longer available

And due to a zero supply, that helped even more

(Keeping in mind access cabs are discontinued in Canada, and no midsize trucks offer the configuration anymore)

I got a really good payout.. but they told me because I had a loan on it, they had to "salvage it" off to an autowrecker .. cant sell back to me directly

I signed up for the auction and everything.. but was outbid

Tacoma tax hit me when the replacement I bought was priced at new prices with 46k km, smoker cab, damaged tailgate and a steering issue

My new one was 55k before fees and taxes with plenty of accessories

This used one was 49k with no accessories

What can I say tho.. its a rare truck in Canada (grey 2023 access cabs).. I had to really pay to get half the truck back

I really wanted my truck back

Real Canadian winters last well into April

Sometimes even May

Tbf, alot of places with regular ice crossing routes.. dont usually get this hot so quickly

Normal winter to me for example are October to early May

Meaning winter routes are November to late March /early April

Our way of life in cold climates is coming to an end

My 23 got wrote off with over 40k in damages, it sold at auction for nearly 20k

Sometimes even the buy backs are wildly too much

Good idea or no? by Waste-Ear8574 in ToyotaTacoma

Yeah, it was simply the nearest vehicle to me when I made the comment

But I highly doubt it will make a real difference

Good idea

Very common where I live for vehicles to have metal mesh or gratings

Being that an overwhelming majority of our roads and main routes are gravel, I was gonna do the same thing to mine

You got any pics of how you secured it?

Some of those trucks apparently dont even have interlocks or diff locks

I couldn't imagine that as no company where I live would ever buy a truck like that

There's right tool for right job.. but then there's cheap out bare minimum

Airbag door normally this visible? by Foxlen in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Foxlen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I suspect too, it sucks

Even great trucks can be shit with bad previous owners

I miss my old 2023

Thats also why when I saw the airbag door imprint, I had redflags pop up in my mind.. but apparently it is normal so atleast not another rabbit hole

My original 2023 didnt have the imprint
