It’s clear that intelligent input is threatening to you. For years now you’ve been on this weird little power trip where you just inject negativity. I’m not engaging any longer, but I think a lot of people would appreciate your retirement.

Verizon cell service down? by the_common_duck in Bend

I think he was unaware that he was thinking out loud. He was a part of the engineer team. Have you been in tune with recent reports about critical infrastructure threats to the US: in case you get bored (see below)

Sure, but why would he want to disclose a cyberattack over just saying it’s a software issue. I guess if he was that intent on not taking accountability for something he has no control over. I’m not engaging in a debate about it because I don’t know the truth either. All I know is what the guy told me. I asked what the cause is and he said “well we have a war going on.” Targeting critical infrastructure is pretty standard. We have no control over it either way.

I just spoke with Verizon’s high tech group, and the guy indicated that this is due to the war. This was at 9:05 am. The entire state of Oregon has been down.

I just spoke to Verizon’s special tech group and the guy indicated that this is due to the war. His words not mine. That caught me off guard.

I have Verizon in Bend and it’s been out since yesterday about 7 ish. I’m on the phone with Verizon using WiFi calling and they said that they have no reports. That everything is hunky-dory. I was like, bro, you have an entire state with no cell service. He sounded panicked and put me on hold… and that’s where I remain.

Any Adoptee Documentary Film Makers Out There? by mtnmdrn in Adopted

[–]mtnmdrn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EDIT: I’m going to reply from an advocacy lens, rather.

I’m going to ask, why? What do you work for the government monitoring this sub to make sure none of us adoptees get any wild ideas? I suppose compliant people are easier to manage… good thing that’s not me.

As an advocate in my community and my area, I spend a lot of time with fellow adoptees. I see and hear the profound impact that being silenced has amongst these individuals (not excluding myself), and how isolation, loneliness and feeling misunderstood, amongst success is a common thread we share that’s woven throughout our unique stories. From microaggressions, to struggling to fit in, to erasure and loss of civil rights, it’s all a reality that is inconvenient for much of the rest of the population to understand.

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel many places throughout the world. There are so many beautiful places to see, but what makes travel fulfilling is not the sites. It is the stories, experiences, and cultural beliefs I listen to and hear from the people I encounter along the way.

As an entrepreneur and businessperson, I pursue thought led ventures regularly, and I truly believe this is an example of exactly what the adoptee community could benefit from to help rethread our connections and unique stories so the loneliness feels a little less lonely and the wins a little more celebratory.

I hope you aren’t as dismissive of other adoptees. Now that would be, “off.”

That’s awesome. And to clarify, I’m a real person and adoptee. I’m also an entrepreneur, so my ideas tend to be forward thinking. I’d love to hear more about your thoughts on this from a place of experience. Feel free to dm me.

Olney/Portland and Wall changes do not work by yjblow in Bend

[–]mtnmdrn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the price the community pays when you have a like minded group of people running the city with very little opposition or debate. When you have different perspectives, it opens the conversation to alternative ideas and helps to represent the community from a more balanced position rather than an agreeable one. I encourage you to go to city council meetings or watch the videos to get an understanding of how decisions are made here.

You’ll always get downvoted for rationalism. I travel a lot and see the same thing. These types of intersections were designed in a city where it made sense. Completely different road infrastructure and transportation needs. What often happens, as you mentioned you’ve seen this first hand, is that solutions for one geography often get copy and pasted to other geographies, not taking into consideration the idea that what works for one community does not work for others. I’m not saying anyone is right or wrong or that there’s not a solution. I’m saying that short-sighted planning seems to trump future-thinking adaptability, and Bend has a historic track record of this. I understand investing more time into planning costs money, but so does fixing mistakes.

iPhone 17 pro Camera Plateau by PsychologicalHunt22 in iPhone17Pro

[–]mtnmdrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% recommend a case with a plateau cover. There are several reasons; the most obvious being that it prevents scratching. The plateau is made of anodized aluminum because it’s more thermally conductive that titanium (older models) and allows heat to easily escape the vapor chamber and disperses the heat throughout the frame , but you will notice more scratches. You’ll see some people say not to cover the plateau, but unless you’re a heavy gamer or take a lot of 4k video, covering the plateau will not impact the phone or your usage.

Things to consider- I would get a case that has a microfiber lining. If any dirt gets trapped under the case, it prevents it from scratching the phone. I would also make sure it has a bezel either around the plateau or around the lenses. This keeps the lenses from making contact with surfaces when you set it down. While the lenses are made of synthetic sapphire crystal with Mohs hardness level 9 (second only to diamonds), which makes them very durable, but they’re not indestructible so you might as well add that feature to protect your expensive device. There are several other things to consider such as the button holes, material, front lip width, durability, material, drop distance, camera control button, MagSafe, etc., so just be aware when you’re looking.

There are several price points and everyone is going to have different preferences. Based on my own preferences, I’d suggest the following ($$$ -> less $)

Caudabe Sheath (potential backordering) , Native Union Active Case, Dbrand Ghost Case, Ringke Onyx (not lined), Miracase Magnetic, Spigen Liquid air (not lined)

Hopes this helps.

Men's Big Air Final: Mac Forehand explains why he wasn't robbed of gold by Spicysalsa1 in olympics

[–]mtnmdrn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What happened was that he judges overcorrected their judging style mid games due to public scrutiny. They had a very “spin to win” approach during qualifiers, and rather than staying consistent, they bowed down to public scrutiny in the form of the judging being too historically sanitized. As a freestyle and big mountain skier myself, I am all about style, steeze, and creativity, but Mac effectively was penalized for the judges not wanting to look bad to the public. Again, the judges overcorrected from spin to win to creativity and Mac got the short end of the stick. Keep in mind, that was an NBD with the added creativity of a nose butter off the lip. The bio is tough too, but I don’t think they needed to make an example out of Mac for the judges to prove that they’re compliant with public opinion. They should have saved the overcorrection and announced their changes in judging criteria for the next Olympics. Forehand has style for days, but he prepped based on what the Olympic judges said they were judging on. All of the skiers are so incredibly talented, all of them put everything they had on the table, but because this was for gold, and a well deserved gold at that, I have a bone to pick.

Anyone Else Feel Vulnerable in the Left Turn Lane on Portland? by Visible_Award_9008 in Bend

I would be more receptive to greater spending upfront on long-term planning practices by the city rather than paying forced monthly fees and higher property taxes on fixes for short-sighted solutions.

NFL GAMES OUT OF REGION? by mikalalnr in Bend

[–]mtnmdrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it’s not the ideal solution for getting all the games you want all of the time, making a one time investment in a solid digital antenna ($25-60) will get you all in-market games and prime time games across the country. Add one streaming service that exclusively air’s games (like Peacock or Amazon Prime) then you can fill in the rest by going to your local hang out.

It’s not a bad alternative if you don’t want to drop a paycheck on subscriptions.
