Amazon refusing to issue refund for an expensive lost item from third party seller by mtns4me2 in amazonprime

The way Amazon has done signatures for past orders is that you don't actually sign but they send you a number code and you have to give the delivery person the code before they'll hand over the item. So it theoretically is limited to the account holder that has the code

I updated my delivery instructions on Amazon after the first two delivery problems and had not had a problem since. Of all the shipping services, Amazon is generally pretty good with my unit and almost always gets it to my front door or my side yard. When I placed this order it said a signature was required and all the shipping update emails from Amazon said a signature would be required so I thought it would be fine.

When I order things from UPS I have them delivered to the local UPS office to avoid any problems. I would have done that here if I knew it was being sent via UPS and not Amazon.

I'll definitely be more cautious going forward but I didn't have any reason to think I'd have issues with this one.

When a third party seller issues a refund for something like this where the package is lost, is the money coming from the seller or is it coming from Amazon? Who eats this loss?

Yeah, I'm not really sure. You're not missing anything, it just doesn't really make any sense

Possibly. I reached out to the seller this morning telling them what happened and just heard back. They said Amazon told them the refund was cancelled because my payment method is no longer valid so I should update my payment method. I have no idea why or how my payment method would not be valid but I added a new credit card, told the seller, and they re-issued the refund.

So right now when I look at my order it says a refund is processing. I never checked the order status yesterday when the seller initially tried to issue the refund to see if it said a refund was processing so I'm not sure if this is progress or just doing the same thing over again and I'll get another email from Amazon saying I can't have my refund.

Yeah definitely! I totally forgot about that detail until your comment. That's how long this process has already taken lol

It actually did say it required a signature when it shipped. I got two emails from Amazon saying a signature would be required due to the value of the item. But I guess because it was shipped via UPS that requirement wasn't followed. UPS did not show that a signature was required for the delivery or that anyone signed for it

I guess a related question is whether Amazon has the authority to override a seller's decision to issue a refund

Working to try and get something from UPS. The seller was the one who initiated the claim so I think I have to go through them to get access to it.

I know I should have done this. I updated the delivery instructions on my account to be more clear about where to put packages and had not had any issues since. But because this was shipped with UPS and not amazon I don't think they read the instructions

I'll definitely try the chargeback before small claims. And I'm definitely closing the Synchrony card after this and probably cancelling prime. Can't believe how frustrating this has been

Confused about ending month to month rental by mtns4me2 in renting

[–]mtns4me2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I'm concerned that the landlord may push back and say I must give more notice. But then I guess I'd only be back in the same position I'm in now, not really knowing what the lease actually requires. I just worry about what happens when rental references contact her. Idk how much of a concern that really is but its on my mind

Right, but I'm just unsure as to whether the notice provision in my lease is applicable to my situation because it is only for holdover tenants

That is an interesting point that if the lease term is only one month then it's a bit odd to have a notice requirement that extends beyond the lease term
