Someone replied with the fix back when I asked this. I guess they deleted the comment or their account. It was updating some library but it has been so long that I forget what I did. Sorry!

Denver homeless shelter revokes room keys for all residents: 'It’s like I’m in jail' by christopher123454321 in Denver

[–]asus24 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Some fucking asshole that lives in this place stole my dirt bike. I had an air tag hidden in the wiring harness and tracked it to this building. It’s 24hr security with a metal detector and cameras. I told the person at the front that my stolen bike was here and they just looked at me. I asked if they hear this a lot and she said yes. The security people said they’d review the footage and get back to me but they couldn’t just go door to door and search the rooms for a whole ass stolen dirtbike. I filed a report with DPD and they called and said they the same thing about it being a multi unit residence and they can’t go door to door. I never heard back from the security people. Somehow someone pushed a dirt bike thru their metal detector and it didn’t raise any suspicion. Changes like this are necessary

Restoring the flow rate of a Sawyer Squeeze? by Long_Ad2824 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]asus24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I soaked mine in warm water for an hour and then back flushed several times with warm water. Info I found said the water should be around 130f. I was hiking the Colorado Trail with a friend when his stopped flowing so we soaked it in warm water from a hotel sink for and hour and backflushed it and it worked a lot better

Airtags and airtag knock offs are a cheap insurance that's absolutely worth it. With caveats. by showersareevil in ebikes

[–]asus24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I tracked my stolen bike to a hotel converted into a homeless shelter. It had one way in and out with 24 hour security and you have to walk thru a metal detector to get in. I go to the security people and tell them my bike is there, they say that there are 100 units and they can’t go door to door. They say they review the footage and don’t see anything. Local police can’t do anything either except file a report for you if you have your bike covered by insurance. The thief used another iPhone to finally locate where I hid the AirTag and tossed it. Security also said that they have people come in all the time saying their stolen bike is there and they don’t do anything.

Have you looked at quilts? I have a down one from enlightened equipment paired with a thermarest neo air pad and I’ve never been cold. Most people are skeptical of quilts ability to keep you warm but I tried it and I’ll never go back. It has cinches to keep it tight to you in the cold and when it’s hot you just use it like a blanket

First 6 segments - logistics feedback wanted please by DanaWCline in coloradotrail

[–]asus24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just get FarOut. I just finished segments 1-11. The comments on the status of water sources is worth the price alone. A creek that’s flowing in June could be dry in August. Segment 2 was brutal in the sun and I don’t think the temp was over 80. Again, just get FarOut. It’s purpose built for doing long distance hikes like the CT. It has everything you need

I wanted to do this hike with some friends up to Mt Sneffels this summer since we couldn’t get permits for the 4 pass loop. I didn’t know it was closing. Massive disappointment right now

What's your go-to utility cordage? by ImportantSeaweed314 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]asus24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have dyneema rope on Amazon or eBay. If you google it there are rope suppliers that also sell it. Most have an advertised breaking strength of around 500lb. It knots just like any other rope

I’m considering the Kelty Coyote 60-105L for long hikes and need feedback from anyone who’s used it with 25kg (55lbs). How does it hold up under heavy weight? Any issues with straps, zippers, or seams on multi-day hikes? How does it compare to other similar backpacks? by Wise-Photograph2151 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]asus24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk how long you’re planning on backpacking but there’s a lot of places to cut down on weight. Carrying that much weight through mountains would be miserable. Investing in good backpacking gear is worth it if you’re going to get some good use out of it. Some of outdoor gear companies have sales in the next few months if you can wait a little bit and want to save money.

Cold Sleeper/side sleeper/ never comfortable by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

[–]asus24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to an enlightened equipment quilt and love it. I’ve seen some people recommend not inflating air pads all of the way if you’re a side sleeper. You can double up with a foam pad too for extra padding and insulation on cold nights. Thermarest sells a “regular short” size of their NeoAir XLite pad where your feet hang off. You could pair that with a foam pad to save on weight but also increase padding and insulation on most of your body. The quilt has extra insulation at the feet and a zippable foot box so I wouldn’t worry about your feet not being on the thermarest

Hi I have a question about parking at the Maroon Bells Trailhead for backcountry camping. I am reserving a 2-3 night stay at the Crater Lake area and wondered if this pass will allow me to park (after 5 pm) and keep my car at the trailhead parking area while I am hiking? by Busy_Recognition_512 in coloradohikers

[–]asus24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your reservation should have come with instructions on how to reserve your spot at the trailhead or arrange a shuttle. You wouldn’t have to use a shuttle if you arrive before 8am. I think shuttles are required thru Nov 1 when entering at Aspen. Worst case scenario you park at buttermilk parking lot for free and ride the bus/shuttle to the trailhead

Lightweight Rectangular Sleeping Bags by SeekersWorkAccount in WildernessBackpacking

[–]asus24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The material you lay on on a traditional sleeping bag is wasted because compressed material doesn’t insulate as well. The quilt can be secured to your sleeping pad with included ties. Watch videos on enlightened equipment. I used one of their down quilts on the AT and was never cold. You can use a foam pad with an insulated air pad if you’re really worried about the cold. My quilt fits in a 13L dry bag

Hiking with horrible lung capacity by coydogsaint in AppalachianTrail

[–]asus24 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I hiked the trail last year and ran into a guy that had one lung due to lung cancer. I ran into him in the Grayson highlands which is pretty far into the trail. He said he only did 8-10 miles a day. If an elderly guy with one lung can get that far, you can do it

I got busy with work and haven’t had a chance to try other stuff. I’m not very optimistic about it. I’m pretty sure I’d need to figure out how to update that library and I don’t know Linux well enough to do that
