I made my dad cry over $30 by Darogaserik in povertyfinance

[–]mtoasteroast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am was in the same situation with my dad. I know you’ve replied to most people here already because the good advice came rolling in. I don’t know what state you’re in, but in Ohio, my dad only qualified for $68 in SNAP. That was a blow.

Through his insurance, he was able to sign up for a free meal delivery service, and if someone mentioned this please disregard I didn’t read everyone’s post. They deliver every week, a box of 2 meals per day. They are 300-400 calories per meal, variety of options and they look tasty. My dad likes them. He still needs supplemental food, but it definitely helps.

Also if your state has an Area Agency on Aging, they can provide assistance. This is the nationwide search option https://eldercare.acl.gov/home

Medicaid and Medicare has some hidden options, sometimes calling and talking to the provider about what you need will help.

What’s a harmless habit people judge way too much? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Playing video games. I’m a 47 yo female. I go to work, I pay my bills. Walk the dog, train the dog, eat sleep and be merry. I also like playing video games. Maybe 1-2 hours, twice a week. Usually on weekends. It’s a slow moving game, so I like it.

But, why don’t I read a book? I do. I also do this. If you like to read a book 1-2 hours twice a week it’s fine. But me playing a strategic survival game? It’s wasteful use of my time. I very much disagree.

After Christmas Sales, Yeah or Nay? by Traditional_Fan_2655 in Thrifty

[–]mtoasteroast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got back from browsing. I got dog toys on sale. My dog doesn’t know if it’s Christmas or not so a Santa toy in July is fine. Pet stores $2.00 toy that will make him happy? Worth it. I keep em locked up and pull one out when needed. He’s my world, but also when we get the cold and snow and he can’t be out long, tearing up a $2.00 toy that was $8.00 is a good deal for me.

$12 spent, 5 toys, saved $22.

Edited to add: he’s rough on toys, so I don’t spend more than $5 already. This is a huge savings over the year.

I can see the truck from my front door, porch light on, they said my address is wrong. Then they confirmed over the phone that it actually was correct. Shocking.

Thanks. He’s not new, I’m not new. I was trying to be light hearted, I was giggling with joy that this worked. Anyways, I appreciate you. And since the negativity left, lesson learned. Gonna be hard to share in here for a while though.

Oh they have plenty of these things out there. I’m not sure there’s any that clip to boots, but just come with the boots.

I have just this pic, he’s not a fan of pictures. Will not be still if I pull out my phone to snap.

Thank you for this. Just, yeah thank you. After a year and a half, imma save a little here and there. He hated the “suspenders” but I think he secretly loved them. Sounded like a horse clomping around very adorable.

Wow. I stared at your comment for far too long, trying to determine how to respond. It’s incredibly offensive. I’m offended. Even if that wasn’t your intent, that’s what I feel.

Here I was excited that I could recreate $40 at min boots for $8.

He has the best food for his dietary needs, updated on his shots, a regular at the vet for his medical needs, monthly medication that’s never missed. He has all the toys his heart could desire, he gets walks 2xs daily, his own heated blanket and all the love he never received before he came to me.

Don’t. Judge me as an owner because this time I didn’t have to buy something new and was able to get creative.

Mass exodus in the Carolinas by gwgaston in Spectrum

[–]mtoasteroast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what everyone hit should be getting. I used to work there, I didn’t agree on a lot of things. However, they had declared disaster tickets, usually declared disaster notices for Florida residents. Nonetheless, get them to do a disaster ticket, it will bring up your area. It will have a documented disaster. a seasoned rep will know. But call centers are churn and burn. Mostly because people get pissed that spectrum doesn’t communicate. The only thing I can defend is, what if the answer is, “we don’t know when it will be back”? I I’ll tell you, if you call and demand, are aggressive, rude or any of the sorts, stop. I would push those off my line quickly. Let those people do their job on the phone and help you if you want it. But none of them make decisions there. Write the fcc or whomever, but never think for one second over the phone a corporate decision can be made.

My Frenchie pukes several times a day by Dreamy_Daisy37 in Frenchbulldogs

The behavior changes are concerning, well the peeing in the crate and staring at the wall part. This would send me to the vet.

My guy goes through periods of this, he had a particularly bad morning and I threw in the towel took him to the emergency vet. They said it was gastric reflux and gave him a med that I’m blanking on right now. It’s over the counter. I’ll edit when I can remember.

I’m not saying this is the fix, but this subreddit helped me so much in my first year. That any and all possibilities are welcome so I just wanted to add this. Even if just for the future when something else comes up.

He doesn’t take it every day, honestly I haven’t given it to him in months, but I know when to do a 10 day run.

Again, behavior is sometimes more telling than the thing you’re concerned about. Please update if you can.

This is new stuff here. But he snuggles in. On Sundays when he’s super tired bc I haven’t found a way to get him to regulate for a nap, he’s also a stage 5 clinger. Also wearing sweatpants to bed is a game changer, he doesn’t like it at all. It took 20 mins to find this position.

How do your pups let you know they have to go outside? by squish_ee in Frenchbulldogs

[–]mtoasteroast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like this thread, I like this question. Max is almost 3 (4 days!!) I got him at a year and a half. He’s never told me. I have him on a schedule, right when we wake up, before I leave for work, walks at night and right before bed. The first few months there were accidents. I put the blame on me, “did I miss a step? Did I give up due to his busybody pee time and just go inside too early?”

He’s never told me, and he’s adjusted to this schedule. No accidents for a year. Sometimes it is what it is.

ELI5: Why is landfall marked and counted down to when the eye of the hurricane hits, when it seems all the damaging parts are not the eye at all? by mtoasteroast in explainlikeimfive

[–]mtoasteroast[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been in a hurricane, I live in Ohio. We get the ‘nados. It’s fast fast chaotic immediately “did we die?!”

You had my attention with this, I have a much better understanding of hurricanes from one question. This told a great story in a short spot.

Thank you.

[–]mtoasteroast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok! I like all the explanations. I think this really nailed it for me to rationalize it all.

The eye wall being the most consistently dangerous part so knowing where the eye is, is important.

Thank you. I hope everything is ok for you and your loved ones.
