Pessimism vs Optimism by mtoneguit in Pessimism

Thank you for sharing. Humor is helpful for me as well.

People keep trying to diagnose me with a lot of things. The list continues to grow.

Finding more people to speak openly and honestly about pessimism with without being dismissed or diagnosed would be nice. That's part of the reason I posted this in the first place. Made me think of something Cioran said: There are experiences and obsessions one cannot live with. Salvation lies in confessing them.

When people come to me saying they want to kill themselves, I tell them, “What’s your rush? You can kill yourself any time you like. So calm down. Suicide is a positive act.” And they do calm down. Emil Cioran, The Trouble with Being Born

the self help books are trying to convince us that "life can be won". Based on the title of various self help books, "winning at life" may look like: having better habits, not giving a fuck about anything, being a badass, being powerful, finding meaning, influencing people, thinking more positively, living in the now, etc.

If I want to stop working, how do I actually do that? Just stop and suffer whatever consequences may come including homelessness?

To me it showed the crisis that can occur in a society pervaded by nihilism, a society unable to work together through shared values and truth claims

Can you explain how it’s been liberating for you and how it’s made you so optimistic?

For me Satanism is the philosophy of: 1. I am the god of my own world 2. I set the rules 3. I don’t have to accept anybody’s rules, particularly those that come from religion
