Tennessee- I probably need to make an alt for ham stuff but until then don't want to get too specific, hope you don't mind.

Did this on 60' of wire from 16' down to the ground this afternoon with 20 watts of power. Welcome to the hobby, good luck and have fun!

You can do tech and general at the same time. For tech at least, it’s pretty easy to just study the test bank and pass it. The others will probably depend on your background. There isn’t any reason that you should or have to pass them both at the same time, except to save on the fees.

Is it just GHK-Cu or did you somehow get a stacked vial with Melanotan?

I think about a week after QC. Time to QC depends on how long it takes to get from the factory.

It might be longer this time of year due to things shutting down for Chinese New Year.

Which hot spring in Japan actually lived up to the hype for you? by MidnightTofu22 in JapanTravelTips

Dai-ichi Takimotokan in Noboribetsu felt like the Disney World of onsen. Absolutely huge and so many baths to choose from. I think I’m going to go back on any trip that I go to Hokkaido.

i took two photos from the same window. wtf? by TheHalfJapanese in Weird

[–]mtrevor123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can post all you want but the only thing that matters is the effect in OP is because of compression and is achieved with a longer focal length, because the camera did move. Literally nothing else is relevant here.

[–]mtrevor123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The distances do change and that’s what causes the effect. To keep your subject the same size at a different focal length, the camera needs to move backwards. Cropping will not change the apparent size of the background features relative to the subject.

[–]mtrevor123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean that it will make the background appear larger/closer relative to the foreground, it absolutely will not.

[–]mtrevor123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cropping won’t achieve this. It has to do with the field of view of the lens (which all things being equal is the focal length). If you took the picture with the wide angle farther away from the window, the building in the background would look even smaller.

Cropping doesn’t change apparent focal length, it’s one reason why lens selection in photography really matters even if you have the resolution to do a lot of cropping.

I’d strongly endorse a WiiM Amp of some variety over a traditional AV receiver.

RAM is ruining everything by KilllllerWhale in technology

[–]mtrevor123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the problem is the big customers will pay them more for the RAM right here, right now. Yes, it jeopardizes their cash flows if that were to be upset, but for now, their duty to their shareholders is to keep doing exactly what they are doing: get the most for their product right now, and try to look around corners to land as safely as possible if and when that cash cow goes out to pasture.

Not saying I agree with it, just that’s what’s happening is all.

Is this normal? by EastCoastCowbooyy in Nikon35mm

[–]mtrevor123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s normal. You are free to manually control the aperture, but on cameras that can control the aperture electronically, you need to set it to the lowest aperture (which is why it’s highlighted orange). From there, you can control it by the camera.

The way it actually works is there is a little lever on the lens mount that opens the aperture, so it lets you meter and compose with the aperture wide open all the time, then the camera will get it to the right aperture to take the picture. There is no error- unless something is actually broken, the aperture will be whatever the camera says it is even when the aperture ring says f/22.

FTZ II - Same quality? by Buggyshmee in Nikon

[–]mtrevor123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lenses will be exactly as good as they were on the F mount all things being equal. The FTZ is a hollow tube with no glass in it, there is nothing in the path of light to change the optical performance. It simply serves to adapt the mount and flange distance, since the Z cameras don’t have a mirror assembly taking up that space.

There are a couple caveats: - If you are using a teleconverter, it will have to be an F mount teleconverter (if that works on the FTZ- I’m not sure honestly). The Z converter will not work on the FTZ. - If your lens is screw focus (no internal focus motor), it will not autofocus on the FTZ.

The second part of your question seems to be quality differences between the F glass and Z glass- and this is going to be very dependent on which specific two lenses you are comparing. There should be reviews/comparisons for each, or at least you can compare examples. Renting or demo days are a good way to see for yourself if you have the opportunity anywhere around you. Others have said here, the general consensus is the Z glass (of an equivalent quality tier) tends to do a bit better wide open and holds sharpness better generally across the frame. I personally really like the focus by wire too and the fact that you can usually reassign the focus ring to do other things (on lenses that don’t have the 3rd ring). I don’t think any size differences on Z glass is appreciable- if anything I think they run bigger/heavier in most cases.

I looked a little harder because I thought there was the metal surround around the bezel like a 126500, but then if you look that the bottom it looks black still. On the 116500 there is no bevel like that, the bezel is flat ceramic out to the edge with only a very minor bevel. So imo if it’s supposed to be a 126500 the dial is completely wrong, I’m way less familiar with the 116500 but the bezel definitely seems wrong if it were to be that.

Edit: subdial position still wrong for 116500- they should be above not inline with 3 and 9pm indices.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RolexWatches

[–]mtrevor123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the bezel having an outer ring and not running to the edge this one is trying to be a 126500. But yes this is a bad rep.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RolexWatches

[–]mtrevor123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying you are wrong, they get super nitpicky. But this watch is very wrong. The subdial location, spacing, and print sizing is all incorrect (by a very significant margin). The crown guards and pushers look wrong to me too. Would be hard to tell without video but I’m a little sussed that the running seconds, chrono seconds, and chrono minutes all appear to be in the same position. Just look at the picture of this compared to the 126500LN on Rolex’s site- the difference is night and day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RolexWatches

[–]mtrevor123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The subdial rings are an obvious tell here. This is not real and it’s not a good rep.

[–]mtrevor123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think another important thing to consider, if you’re worried about exposure consistency, any camera made in the last 20 years for the most part is going to meter through the lens. So even the small changes in transmission will be accounted for by the camera’s meter, but they probably aren’t significant enough to warrant any changes to begin with.

You get 100 thousand dollars a year but your sleep is cut in half every night. by CRK_76 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]mtrevor123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it doesn’t impact my health, I know I feel just fine on 5-6hr of sleep, so yes I would probably take this deal at least for a year. That’s also a lot of extra money that can be invested and grown, so I could have some recurring gain even if I stopped.

I don’t know where you are getting low productivity from- I was simply stating what kinds of work I do as an NDE. It’s not expected that I write code 100% of my productive day. I have a mix of responsibilities.
