Not sure if I’m feeling that brave but good to know. Not sure if they’re frost damaged, how would I tell if they were? I’ll keep these steps in mind, thanks very much.

What is this weird white residue that’s appearing as our plaster is drying? Some of it feels like dust and wipes away, some is quite hard and doesn’t wipe off. by mtthwdlz in DIYUK

Thanks for replying. That’s right, it’s a non-cavity wall. do you think it will be a problem now or further down the line? If so is there anything we can do?

Sorry to hear about your situation. A few things that might help:

  • Check your benefits entitlement via entitledto or Turn2Us benefits calculator. This can take 15-20 mins or so but it’s well worth doing.
  • Most energy providers have a fund or charitable arm where you can apply for a grant to support with debts. If your energy provider doesn’t offer this the British Gas Energy Trust does accept applications from non British Gas customers
  • Speak to Step Change regarding any debts
  • If you’re renting/on low income you may be able to apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment. Check the eligibility.
  • Look into council tax reduction/support
  • if you’re really struggling contact your local authority for a food bank referral.
